city's 12% unemployment rate. and, produced 55 jobs. william lajeunesse is live on this for us in los angeles. what is going on, william? with this stimulus package? and what it is producing in l.amember how the stimulus was sold? the $800 billion was going to create jobs, stall the recession and help save the economy. and that was 18 months ago, well, now comes the results. city of los angeles, the city controller did a 40-page audit of stimulus money, and, found out it is not being spent swiftly, wisely or creating the jobs as promised, for instance, the l.a. department of public works spent $70 million in stimulus money, and it claimed to create 238 jobs, in fact the money created just 7 private sector jobs, zero public jobs, and 7 existing workers from layoffs. now, this was -- let's go back to the full screen, if you want. that was the department of transportation, that was 40 million stimulus money and only created or saved 9 jobs, taxpayer cost, 4.4 million per job, and the department of public works, that cost 1.5 million per job. here's the controller, wendy greuel, she was disappointed. >> maybe a b-minus in creating the jobs. they've started to spend those dollars but

l.a. times broke the story about city manager robert rizzo. not only was he making close to $800,000 a year but the l.a. times says out of his retirement account he loaned himself $95,000 and paid the money back using city funds without the approval of the city council. that man right there robert rizzo was part of the whole salary scandal. let me show you the amount of the salaries. rizzo made $887,000 a year. his assistant manager. $376,000. the police chief, randy adams, $457,000 a year, megyn. he makes a lot more than the l.a. police chief who has thousands of officers. randy adams had 24 officers under his authority. if you look at the pensions that was the second part of this thing. not only were the salaries outrage just but the pentagons were also enormous, rizzo's pension $659,000 a year. the assistant city manager 250. the police chief randy adams $411,000. just last week the attorney general of california, jerry brown came out announcing that he was filing a lawsuit against several former and current employees in bell trying to get t

reports of the city comptroller of l.a. department of city parks and recreation show that they are spending too stloely d slowly due to the red tape. they plan to retain 64 jobs once they spend all of the money. the department 06 partment of p got $71 million in stimulus funds and they got projects like resurfacing streets, and building sidewalks and storm drains, et cetera, and sounds good, right? but the reports, the audits show that it took eight months to put together bids and review them and then award the contracts. as for the department of transportation, they got $41 million to buy new buses and upgrade rail road crossings, and put in new traffic signals. the comptroller's report shows it was a year to approve the purchase of the buses. meanwhile, in los angeles, the unemployment rate is over 12%. at the time, los angeles city officials would not point to the audit, but pointed to newer figures that showed the stimulus dollars hard at work. imagine the private sector, you hire somebody and pay them $100,000 salary, y
