we're learning more information after an officer shot a suspect armed with a knife in la fayette. it happened early this morning at a home on woodview drive. ktvu's tara moriarty joins us live from la fayette to tell us what happened. >> reporter: the suspect is in the hospital. he's undergoing surgery at this point after being shot by police. no officers were injured here but details still a little bit sketchy at this point. the big question, what provoked this shooting on this quiet street. just after 7:00 this morning, shots rang out in this secluded neighborhood. >> it sounded like bang, bang, bang. >> this man lives across the street. >> a little bit shaken up. >> reporter: police received a series of 911 calls from the home on woodview drive. there was no responsance then the -- response and then the person would hang up. >> the officers ordered the suspect to drop his knife and then shots were fired. >> reporter: the parents are reportedly vacationing in mexico. two grown daughters also live here as well as a boyfriend of one daughter. >> one of the boyfriends is a black ma
