just brought lacrosse from club to bersani. we have women's lacrosse and men's lacrosse. thrilled to offer the parity. it took me an entire generation to rise up through the ranks from cadet to admiral. whole generation to come that far. students have to look where you are right now and what drop you will put in right now. the glass is filling up though. just recently michelle john role was lieutenant general in the air force and came back to her alma mater. back even before that in 2008 general done woody was the first female four-star admiral in the army. she has now retired. we have another female superintendent. amazing how if you look back at 1872 summit the poor woman who wanted to be a lawyer in illinois and told she could not be, now look where we are right now. it is amazing. we cannot forget where we came from. so we still have a lot of work to do, even in the coast guard with a third of the women in the coast guard economy. doing great at attracting women, but retaining women becomes another challenge. young people will graduate from winthrop but then you will

i stand on the soccer and lacrosse sidelines every weekend talking to other parents about this subjectdad told me one town can no longer have a football team because so many kids have pulled out of football. is this trend now irreversible? >> well, i don't think it's irreversible. i think football is getting a bad rap. people need to be better educated because honestly in youth sports, the incidence of injuries and head injuries in soccer and in lacrosse and in hockey and certainly they are commensurate with football. and then there are other activities we let our kids do all the time, ride their bike, ride a skateboard, downhill skiing which are all activities that are much more dangerous where your kids are much more likely to have a head injury. so football is getting a hard knock right now when it comes to these concussions. >> i'm going to push back a little bit because obviously we see that hockey and football are ones where kids are going to be hurt in more repeated fashion, especially when you talk about the aggression that is used in football. and look, trust me, i love the ga

traditional sports camp which are baseball, basketball, and flag football and we're introducing lacrosse for kids this summer. we have alternative sports camp which are fog city camp and then our skate boarding camp which is popular. we have outdoor recreation camps. that is the most populated camps, you know that over pine lake and our indoor rock climbing camp. we have teen focus camp. those fill up and the ones we're most proud of and they have a leader and training camp. and we have surviving the city on $5. it teaches kids how to actually have a day in the summer on five bucks and then also how to navigate the entire city. it's mainly -- that one is geared towards teaching kids how to get across a city on muni on mass transit and it's geared towards those leaving middle school and heading to high school and has to travel to different parts of the city. we have our neighborhood camps which we do throughout the city through many of our large rec centers and other properties. we've seen those camps and we do the streets of san francisco, when nature calls, and each one has a theme each

you mention that your daughter is playing lacrosse at notre dame. i'm -- watching her experience and your experience, i'm wondering if you were ever discouraged at notre dame from taking a class or pursuing a major because you are you -- you were a student-athlete? >> i was not and further they encouraged us to pursue our academic passions,mer chairman. >> you wisely moved to on from a bachelors degree in biology, which i also found useless, so -- if you -- i think probably most of us on this panel -- i can't speak for everybody but you mentioned a lot of issues that could be and should be addressed. injuries, for example, you had a list of things that ought to be look at and your conclusion was that that is something that the universities, notre dame and all of them, including baylor and stanford, ought to be addressing, and that being a member of a union, a student athletes being member of an union, wouldn't help that. am i oversimplifying your position. >> i would say that i think baylor, stanford, notre dame, it is an option to provide four year
