-lake murray boulevard is back open at this point. -driver taken to the hospital for precautionary minor injuries. -cited for driving too fast for conditions in one more chapter of his ethics scandal, former south carolina house speaker bobby harrell will have to pay up. today, the house ethics committee voted that harrell must pay back nearly 113 dollars and pay it within six months. that was campaign money harrell used to pay his lawyers as he was under a criminal ethics investigation. the committee ruled that was improper use of the money. the committee also hit harrel with a thousand dollar fine and reprimanded him. harrell pleaded guilty to ethics charges and resigned from the house in 2014. his attorney spoke with wis this afternoon, he said: "while disappointed with the committee's ruling, mr. harrell is pleased to finally bring closure to this matter once and for all." the u.s. justice department wants to shut down three liberty tax service franchises. it says several columbia locations are filing false federal income tax retu

town leaders had been talking about charging the lake murray irmo woman's club to take part in next year's festival. the club would have been charged participation fees, utility fees and a cost to set up a booth. a new ordinance was introduced by the town council just last night. if it passes the club will not be charged for next year's strut. the woman's club worked to create the event years fried okra at the festival for free. they say most of the money they raise during the okra strut --- goes to support area charities. "we have even given $550 to irmo arbor day.so the money is actually going back right into irmo so i don't understand why they need our six or seven hundred dollars." irmo town leaders plan to discuss the new ordinance change at its next meeting. it has to be voted on by the council two more times before it can take effect. south carolina republicans getting out to the polls should not have any trouble with the weather. our forecast is coming up also: we'll check out a coming together for some very different kids, in the name of athletic achievement for all kids. want to

members of the lake murray-irmo woman's club say the mayor and at least two on council are behind a plan to charge them as much as $650 for booth space, electricity and a "participation fee." the club president says her group has never been required to pay under an agreement with the town dating back to 1980. she says the town is making plenty of money off the festival---and the new demands will damage the woman's club scholarship program. a florence special needs home now has a deal with the family of a woman who died there. today, lawyers for the family of 21-year-old fantasia franklin say they've reached a one million dollar settlement. franklin was a permanent resident of the pee dee regional center in florence. she died there in december of 2013. south carolina department of disabilities and special needs. the lawsuit claimed franklin was improperly restrained by employees and died as a result of compression and asphyxiation. no toss von gaskin has forecast after the break. america's heroes have a message. if you've fought... you know picking a commander in chief is no small thing.

incident began unfolding----roughly a mile from myers' home on mooring lane on the southern edge of lake murray. the highway patrol says shortly before 8:00 the intersection of old chapin road and beechcreek road. there---they found a 2007 lexus abandoned by its driver after striking a utility pole. they id'd the car as belonging to solicitor myers---who lives almost a mile from that scene. they believe he was trying to make a left turn heading toward his house and lost control. myers was located at his home and taken into custody, charged with dui and taken to the alvin glenn detention center in richland county. taken there--not to the lexington detention center because he is the chief prosecutor for lexington county and has been for 40 years. at the jail, myers' blood alcohol tested at point- zero-nine. this follows a may 2012 traffic stop--also on old chapin road---when a trooper saw the solicitor's car swerving and traveling in the middle of the road. myers explained that he was listening to a south carolina baseball game. when the trooper spotted a cup with scotch in it, myers first sugges

anywhere west of lake murray seeing good rain shortly, but as you are heading out today, temperatures right now not too bad, in the upper 50s, should be in the mid-30s but we will be kind of in the same ballpark with temperatures throughout the day today. we might see some oscillation, i for today, look for highs near 60. pretty much what you are waking up and heading out to, that is what you can expect. rain in and out and temperatures in the 50s. 24 hour temperature change, we are cooler, temperatures in the 60s. we saw highs get up to 76 downtown before the storms really got going, it was able to fuel a lot of the storms but wind shattering to shift out of the southwest and west which will bring in a drier component and push it to the east and cooler air from the west. looking for a gradual cooling effect, drying effect, but rain will be sticking around probably through much of the afternoon, kind of in and out, not necessarily a wash out by any means but i would expect to see some good shower activity for us here very, very soon. after the rain today, we are looking at a drier set
