one lane opened -- two lanes actually a little over an hour ago so traffic is able to crawl through that area. golden gate bridge remains shut down. our chopper is overhead. you see cars still blocking south lanes and a heavy law enforcement presence. they're standing by in the north bound lanes. for the most part, they have not moved in to remove some of the cars blocking traffic but they have started turning vehicles around, some of the people who got stuck in the mess. they're doing that at the end of the line on the bridge where they have a little room just north of the bridge by sausalito, turning vehicles around one by one. we have seen a few protesteers being detained. chp appeared to cuff a person that was in a yellow vest. you see them walking off the bridge. later another protester is led away by law enforcement, some of the 20 people confirmed arrested so far. this is a look from earlier where you see the protesters standing with the banner saying stop the world for gaza. i don't know about the world but certainly traffic on the golden gate bridge was stopped. we spoke with so

these lanes have been completely empty. pedestrian lanes and bike lanes also cleared. we talked to a couple people who have actually walked off of the bridge. one woman who had to just leave her car with someone else that she was in the car with and walk off the bridge so she could make her appointment in the city today. those protesters are still there, as mentioned. authorities are working on those arrests. they are expecting to make about 25 to 30 arrests. everyone that is on the bridge is expected to be arrested. now, we're told by chp they will be brought to san francisco. we will wait to see when those people arrested will be taken off of the bridge. but those cars have stalled and stopped all of that traffic. initially, it was on the southbound lanes, then they also closed the northbound lanes, as well. the biggest challenge to this, marcus and laura, as we saw over in oakland, is also working on disconnecting the tubing. i'm told what it's been described as is steel tubing that is connected people along with cars. we have a photo of that that actually shows a c

a major backup on 8.80, all lanes are currently closed. southbound heading anywhere towards the san jose or south bay. at on, you can see this backup already starting here in this just happened within the last 30 minutes or so. i did call chp. they're telling me right now there's another overturned big rig, which is similar to what we saw yesterday. so your best bet to get around. this is going to be taking his spirit boulevard, which is, you know, right near the freeway. but even then you're still going to see that congestion. so if you are trying to get around it completely may be taking to 38 or 6.80. but even then you may start to see some back up again. there's no eta as to when the southboynd lanes of 80 will be open. they plan to be completely closed, at least for the next few hours until chp is able to get all of this taking care of. so we'll continue to keep you updated on that. taking a look right now at the bridge is a san mateo bridge, which is near there. you can see things are still going smoothly on that bridge right now. 13

protesters took over both lanes for more than four hours. anne makovec shows us they had their own strategy. >> the demonstration of the golden gate bridge made news across the country because it is such an international landmark, but for us around here it's one of the few routes in and out of the city. this was a big deal when the protest started around 8:00 a.m. during the busy morning commute. protesters were standing in the southbound lanes with that banner saying stop the world for gaza. then the chp shut down the northbound lanes as a staging area. so nobody was going anywhere for about four hours. here's a look at backup from above, traffic snarled for miles beyond the robin williams tunnel to the north. officers were finally able to start turning around some of the cars that had not yet reached the bridge, but those that had were stuck. >> i have to work for a living. so i'm out here. i can't miss work. i understand it's a very important issue and it's very sensitive, but i don't know if this is the best way to do it. >> i'm against

not just southbound lanes, northbound lanes as well. all lanes completely shut down at the golden gate bridge. i want to show you a a live look at 880. this is the nimitz freeway northbound for commuters trying to work their way out of a word, san leandro, oakland near the coliseum. this is how far this backup is . because of the lane closures on the northbound side of 880, near 980. the barrels and the protesters are in lanes and this has been going on for several hours. they are allowing big rigs and larger trucks to use 580. they don't typically do that because of weight restrictions but today, just to get traffic moving, people can use 580 are traveling in larger big rigs and trucks. 880 northbound backed up well into san leandro and you can see 580 is taking a hit as well for all the commuters, potentially using that. we see all of this on highway 13 as well and maybe trying to get toward 24 and toward the bay bridge. travel times are hefty. well over two hours to try to work away from 238. try to avoid the area if you can, if you
