the latest numbers put larry hogan up by nearly 90,000 votes total. and when you drill down on some of those numbers. when you look at frederick county where he is winning, they point to that as a real sign of success. now the only republican to win, to become governor of maryland in the last 50 years was bob ear early. i spoke to him a few hours ago to get his take as he was watching some of these numbers come in. he said the key is going to be in montgomery county. he knows that no republican is going to win montgomery county, but he said larry hogan has to get close to 40%. he was down near in the low 30s. that has inched up now to 35. so he's getting closer to there. he also looked at p.g. again, the republican is going to get destroyed in pea ge but he said he to get to 20%. he had been at 12. that number going up as well. so over all, people here very, very hopeful that they will do something that's only been done once in the last 50 years. jim, dorine? >> thanks. right now, lieutenant governor anthony brown is watching this race. he is neck and

republican larry hogan's victory for governor could be the biggest upset in the country. is morning we're learning how he won. when the election began polls said hogan trailed by double digits. even when he won the first word he said was wow. here's what he told chris lawrence when he was asked if he was surprised. >> well, we were. we have experts tell us there was a road to victory but you couldn't get over 50.1. we surpassed every single county and precinct. we delivered what thought we needed to do. every county was important. >> hogan will hold a news conference on this victory later this morning in annapolis. anthony brown was an early favorite in his race. he held his watch party at the university of maryland. >> today we fell short of our campaign goal. but it does not and cannot diminish the work that each and every one of you have done in our communities and throughout our state. so thank you. . >>> brown is the outgoing lieutenant governor. much of the campaign concern tying to o'malley. >>> hogan relying on the same spot as euhlich did. he lost baltimore city.
