i mean, you have a state that right now is... many latinos feel is outwardly anti-latino-- arizona.you have a sentiment... you know, many analysts are looking at this and saying, "there is an anti-latino sentiment in our country." so in fact, less burden? don't you feel like there is a new generation of young latinos who are saying, "you know what? this is our country and we are... are angry that we're not heard politically"? >> i think that... that particularly the actions in arizona and the mood, generally, of the last 18 months, two years, you know, has sort of raised the specter of anti-latino sentiment in the united states, but i wouldn't say that it's to the same level as the generations before. you know, for instance, just at a basic level, you know, in the year 2010, it's possible to be a doctor, an engineer, a lawyer, and it was in theory possible two generations ago but that really didn't happen much. it's possible now to go and conduct commerce anywhere in the united states as a latino. you're not going to be held back from that. so i do believe that this younger generati

santiago: the majority of children that we serve are latino children, obviously latino families. they are primarily from the mission community in san francisco, as well as the excelsior and bayview-hunters point community of san francisco. damian: what kind of needs are they coming in with, or what are you seeing demographic wise? santiago: you know, most of our parents demonstrate the need for full daycare, or early care and education services. damian: everybody's working full time, three, four jobs. santiago: yes. and they are, in essence, working poor parents. so, our head start program--as you know, head start is a part day-part year program, but we combine head start dollars with california department of education child care dollars to provide full early care and education services to over 400 children and their families. and so, primarily working poor parents have the opportunity to leave their child in good hands, qualified staff, healthy and safe facilities. and again, our goal is to prepare the child to enter kindergarten so that she or he can succeed in school and gradu

[applause] as many of you know, the senate bill attempted to accomplish this important goal. overdueew, the time is for many of my republican colleagues to end the demagoguery and take up serious immigration reform. and even while 2 1/2 million new latinos signed up for health care, 25% of latinos have no health care plan. obesity ttle with high and diabetes. so i've seen these issues firsthand in my district and in california, and as a whole have seen and have worked to improve our condition. this congress, i introduce the all-year access act, which would restore pell grants for both full-time and part-time students, giving access to postsecondary education all year round. and back in my home district, i relaunched, relaunched adding and additional 2,000 people this year, latinos in my district to health care. so while we make these incredible strides in wellness and education, the latino community still has so many issues to address, but i will tell you this, that the problems are not just latino problems. they are problems for the united states, because you see, america is a family. it's a familia, and we have to address these issues together. because for the first time in my beautiful home state of california, the largest majority ethnic group is now latino. and you know what, this should not

it's a gateway issue to get into the latino community. if republican candidates don't deal with immigration in a constructive way -- >> but is it an open minded thing? is there anything, any way you can be persuaded on trump or cruz who are hardliners on immigrati immigration, are you open minded? >> well, there's a big difference between donald trump and ted cruz. with donald trump, we'll have an open discussion. but we have a hard time supporting a guy who says the majority of mexicans, undocumented immigrants are rapists and criminals. that kind of talk is very offensive to the -- >> he did not say the majority. he just said they're not sending their best people. >> and some are good people. that kind of language, regardless of how you see it, is offensive to latinos. and now to say we're going to deport every undocumented immigrant, that's impossible to do. >> chris, you are a conservative latino, and trump supporter. were you invited to this? >> no, we weren't. when this announcement came down, and three things megyn that stood out w

if we look at the latino vote again, they are young. i% are between 18 and 29, don't know about you, but i don't know any person in that age who has a book of stamps in their purse.
