"today in the bay's" kris sanchez is live at valley medical center. first to damian trujillo. tell us what you've learned. >> reporter: nothing so figures so far from officials but we are hearing two off-duty oakland firefighters were shot here outside of the gordon biersch brewery in japan town. one was killed. the crime investigations unit is still here. this happened at 9:30, and they are still here some six hours or so after this all happened here in downtown san jose. still a lot of unanswered questions. police need to know what led up to this incident here in japan town. police say the victims were attending a weekly music festival. not the restaurant but the brewery. and for some unknown reason investigators say they were shot across the street from the brewery. police detained one person after a short pursuit. they are canvassing the are

i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia-cannon. we'll help you get out the door. >> as we look at what's going on, a little muggy outside. >> looks pretty good, though. it's going to be a hotter day. you'll feel the difference this afternoon. yesterday was so pleasant. today we will see the temperatures going up a few more degrees. partly cloudy. clear in the south bay. we are seeing some mostly clear skies in the north bay. temperatures cool there. a look at the highs this afternoon reaching up to 72 in oakland. 92 in antioch and san jose at 82 degrees. we'll talk about all of that in the forecast heading into the weekend coming up. mike is tracking a crash clearing in the east bay. >> we had a few small crashes that cleared quickly but this one leaves debris over westbound 80, willow. the on ramp may be affected by debris left over just as you head through the area heading to hercules. that on ramp for a few minutes until they clear the debris. another crash down through san pablo is not a major issue. it's over on the shoulder.

i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> and i'm marcus washington. it is the day that we have all been talking about. eclipse day is here. >> of course everyone wants to know will it be cloudy? and that is going to be the really big thing and a key factor in whether or not you'll be able to see it here in the bay area. it does look like it will be cloudy in spots. we are starting out with some clouds this morning and i want to show you where that area of totality will be as it moves across the u.s. now we will are at least 75% coverage of the moon over the sun. when we reach that peak time we will be able to see some darkness here in the bay area and will have some cooling temperatures. an early look at the cloud cover and what we're expecting clouds near the coast in san francisco, most of sonoma county, marin county, and also as you head down towards half moon bay. and as we go throughout the morning the clouds will start to retreat back towards the coast and some inland areas will get some clearing. so that will be the main thing we'll be watching

i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> and i'm sam brock. a full check of weather in just a moment. first to mike inouye who is tracking yet another crash in the south bay. tell us about it, mike. >>> this is complicating the situation. we have this sig alert which continues in san jose. most of the issue. the majority of rain now clear but north 101. look at the big jam just off 85. now 85 over is the alternate. 85 now has a crash. northbound right along the escape route at blossom hill shy of 87 causing a big problem now. up on the split. this is why there's even more traffic on the monterey highway and the capital expressway. those are the two options. one horrible who are dore coming had in through san jose. the rest of silicon valley moves well and the rest of the bay. i guess the better news, take a look outside at slow traffic and see pleasant weather, kari. >> it does feel nice out there. mostly cloudy skies. in san francisco where it's 60 degrees right now and heading into the low 90s for concord and antioch and some upper 80s for the tri-valley down to morgan hill. san jos
