. >> i am in for laura garcia. we have a fiery crash in morgan hill. this is what firefighters were up against this morning. it was absolute chaos out there. firefighters say it's something unlike anything they have seen. >> we heard audible gasp in the news room as we got these pictures in, and it's just astonishing. one of the worst accidents we have seen in a good long time we have mike -- we'll start with bob, and bob is live out on the scene. tell us the latest of what you know. >> reporter: a fire captain did tell us he has never seen an accident like this where you have four cars involved in the same accident and all catch fire and become fully engulfed. the remains are out here south of highway 85 on the 101. one driver was not able to get out of their vehicle and died in the crash. this happened around 3:30 this morning and it's not clear what caused this crash and we know it's a chain collision involving four sedans involving one person in each car, and one driver died, and two others went to the hospital, and then the fourth driver walked aw

thank you for joining us i am laura garcia.ve some breaking news right now as we are brifg you live pictures from nbc bay area sky ranger. a fire near the grade certainly is going to cause a distraction this morning. >> we have seen the frames roadside. it is a smaller fire looks like right here. but i heard a number of spots actually caught fire in the grass in the area on 680 southbound at andrade. this is causing them to close that exit from 680. that's a factor in your commute. look at all the dry grass in the area throughout the hills and the trivalley. we have a number of fire crews scrambled out to the area. more are arriving now. it looks like they have closed one lane of southbound 680 causing a backup coming out of pleasanton and send ole. two hot spots in this shot. chp heard about three spots with fires. there may be more or they are actively putting them out as we speak. the live shot shows you two lanes blocked approaching andrade road from south 680. no injuries reported, no crashes. a big distraction during the

. >> i'm laura garcia. let's look at the forecast with kari. another hot one, then the cooldown will start? >> finally. it'sen sohot, and we'll have more hot weather today. as we look outside in san francisco from our san bruno mountain camera. that's a beautiful sunrise. we had to deal with some poor air quality. if you can, catch public transit, if you're on your way out the door in oakland heading to the bart station, it will be warm again. reaching into the upper 80s by the early afternoon. the south bay temperatures up to 102 in morgan hill 1678, 106 in antioch. mike, you're seeing some changes? >> a lot of chp south 101 into south san francisco. looking at the rest of the bay, a light drive for most commuters. south 101 does jam up out of san francisco, off of 280 you're tapping the brakes down towards sierra park parkway. chp says changing the flair pattern and moving and ready to open up lanes. watch for more slowing on 101. 280 is clear. we transfer over to the bayshore freeway. getting towards the bay bridge is easy. backup at the met

. >> i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia. mike had a traffic problem earlier, now there's another one. >> let's look at the first one. our photographer made his way and got there, on the right side of your screen, you see that white vehicle slanted down here? here's chp and sheriffs, over there, that's the tow truck with the vehicle on the back of the flatbed. it went off the road and into the fencing. this is highway 92, just off the span of the san mateo bridge, still affecting traffic getting on to hayward city streets. two of those three lanes are blocked. that's majority 06of the freewa. there is a slowdown as you approach. your commute is building west over towards that san mateo bridge toll plaza. that is an issue even now. we're hearing caltrans should arrive on scene in the next 15, 20 minutes hopefully to assess the structure there for the fencing and the roadway conditions. i'm not sure what we're waiting on as far as the tow trucks go, i think we're waiting for a stronger tow truck to pull that tow truck itself of

. >> i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia. we have some breaking news in the traffic department. >> this sounds dramatic. the san mateo bridge, a tow truck overnight went off the bridge it sounds dramatic, but the san mateo bridge touches land and there's a marshy area as you approach the hayward side just past the toll plaza. there's a hayward interpretive center, on the eastbound side is where the truck went off the roadway anded into the m into t area. it had a vehicle on the back of it. right now one vehicle is getting by, but right now traffic is so light folks are able to make their way by without problems. just a distraction. heading to hayward now, getting off the san mateo bridge, you have to clear over to the left shoulder because the right two lanes are blocked. we have a crew heading out there to get the best pictures as they can while maintaining their safety. at least the weather not complicating things. >> as we start out the morning looking nice and quiet. live look at san jose. as you head out the door, we hav

. >> and i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia. pete, this new video is really fueling that push against that controversial navigation center in the city. >> yeah, this is new video. i do want to point out this group is trying to get the city of francis not to build the planned homeless navigation center along the waterfront. in that video, you can see a man running along beale street and then in half a block he punches someone in the face. this is weeks after yet another incident took place, that one involving a homeless man attacking a woman outside a condo. we know the man in that video has since been identified at 25-year-old austin vincent. a judge did initially release vincent following that incident, but earlier this week he turned himself in for previous crimes he committed over the past few months. the city of san francisco is apparently working to address concerns following these incidents. you have the "san francisco chronicle" reporting that the mayor and other city leaders met just yesterday to come up with a plan to s
