now, lawrence, how do you assess nato's role in this conflict? so far? i think natal has done a tremendous job. 14 nato nations, including germany. how provided very, but military assistance to ukraine. they have moved their forces close right up to the russian border. so if potent dream of, you know, just overrunning ukraine in a matter of days, what he then decided he wanted to do the baltics as well. we put our forces in there. you've got the uh, polls have take it in hundreds of thousands of ukrainian refugees and i've offered to provide them on aircraft. so i think this has reinvigorated nato. a lot of us and i think the germans included well wondering, you know, what is the future of nato in this post cold war world? what we now know is to prevent russia from trying to reestablish the soviet empire . now the russian military advance is proceeding slower than expected. why do you think that it's well, i think there are 2 reasons. number one, they underestimated the capabilities of the ukrainian military. they thought it was going to be much like it

>> good evening, lawrence. the russians are saying that they want to radically reduce their military presence around kyiv, and chernihiv. but a top russian negotiator is saying that a scale back does not mean a cease fire, which speaks volumes about the russian mindset. i think the u.s. and ukrainian officials at best are very skeptical about anything the russians have to say. you heard john kirby say today that there is only a tiny amount of russian troops that have left the outskirts of kyiv. the ukrainian army is saying that they don't think that the russian troops are going to leave around ukraine, around kyiv, and this is just a trick by the russians to throw them off the scent. he said that the withdrawal was probably going to be a little more than a rotation then -- of individual units, and there was a misconception about what a withdraw actually is. all the evidence on the ground supports that the russians continue to hit kyiv, and is outskirts, as you mentioned earlier, they hit government buildings, p

a lawrence is back with us. >> it's been rough. yeah. this is that time of year could scare. imagine you're looking for the spring time and place is another place. it gets really dangerous weather wise. and that's what they've seen today. just a series of tornadoes developing along this frontal boundary in today. no numerous tornadoes coming down along that line. they're looking for the possibility of some tornadic activity for tonight as well. but you see all those areas in red and white. those are reports of different tornadoes all the way from new orleans all the way up jackson and then for the east. and now that line is moving further. also into parts of a mississippi and alabama. and it's going to head toward the eastern seaboard. so here's where we sit right now. all those areas shaded in yellow. they are currently under a tornado watch. scary night ahead for them as numerous thunderstorms continuing to erupt along that line. some heavier storms and severe thunderstorms are developing in parts of the north, right. just south of birmingham. they've had some flash floodin

>> good evening, lawrence.ht, but it was a weekend that rocked the city, as you mentioned. there were missile attacks on a fuel depot. that punch the sense of security. so many people in the city have fled the war torn east. you speak many people here. i feel lucky to be in lviv, but they don't feel entirely safe anymore. they say vladimir putin is capable of anything. he bombs churches, hospitals, apartment buildings and lviv may not be safe. it was a big attack. this was the closest attack to the city center, just two miles from ram right now. it completely destroyed that fuel depot. with missiles, precision missiles, they were launched from the sea. the russians said they did that to stop the ukrainians supplying fuel to the ukrainian troops fighting on the east and front. that is where we are seeing some fierce resistance by the ukrainian troops. they're putting up a valiant fight there. they're much more savvy, much more intelligence in their fight against a much bigger russian war machine. they've many te
