it happened on lee highway and farm drive. not far from the fairfax county government center. officials say two people are dead at the scene. these live pictures from chopper 4 at route 29, lee highway which has been closed as police investigate. joining us now on the phone is officer shelly broderick with the fairfax county police department. officer, what can you tell us happened at the scene? >> appears just after 4:00 this afternoon, we had an accident in the area of lee highway and forum drive. the vehicle involved in the accident, it appears, came from lee highway and ended on forum drive where it struck a bicyclic who was on a bike path. >> we're seeing what looks like a bike lane. so this actually happened back in these woods, is that right? >> well, there were actually two bicyclists who are on a bike path. the information is very preliminary at this point. but it appears that vehicle left the roadway, came up onto the bike path and struck one of the two bicyclists. so one

fairfax county family after a teenager is killed by a car while riding his bike near the intersection of lee highway in fairfax. john gonzalez has the details on the victim. good evening. >> the 17-year-old was getting ready to graduate from fairfax high next month. this family just received is invitations this week. now, instead, they are planning his funeral. the 17-year-old would ride his bike up this path quite often. sadly, today, he was met on the other side by an out-of-control suv. >> friends and family describe him as a very fit high-school wrestler and class clown. today, their laughter and cheers have turned to grief. >> no smoking, no drinking, nothing. >> just after 4:00, he and his friend were riding bikes on this path when the blue suv came careening through. >> they say the guy lost control, jumped the sidewalk. he hit my son. >> the friend jumped off his bike just didn't time. the boy was struck and killed. the vehicle came to a stop after slamming into a tree. the driver died on the scene. >> it is horrible. >> the owner of this store saw the horrific accident on fold. crit

it happened late this afternoon on lee highway at forum drive. wisdom martin has more from the scene of the bizarre accident. >> reporter: fairfax county police spent the afternoon tmay have been in the area at the time of the accident hoping to get some kind of clue about what made this driver run off the road and into the bike path. fairfax county police say the accident happened just after 4:00 p.m. the sawf was headed -- the suv was headed northbound on lee highway when for some unknown reason it lost control. it went dieing a neal to the left cross -- diagonally to the left. went straight up a bike path and hit a 17-year-old on a bike before crashing into a tree. the 17-year-old cyclist did not survive. the driver of the suv was also killed. >> we're all upset. i learn -- [ indiscernible ] >> i heard a very loud noise when i was inside the store. then i come out and i see there was a young, young girl. >> reporter: that young girl was a teenage cyclist who was with the teen. fortunately she was not hurt in this accident. >>> to another accid

very interesting story about sandly lee -- sandy lee, at that time the u.s. diving team for the olympics would not allow dr. sandy lee to practice with him because he was a korean american. he had to be somewhat innovative and creative, diving off cliffs and just try to get himself through practice to prepare for olympics. despite the difficulties he was confronted with he won the gold medals for uncle sam. i remember years ago, when i attended the 1988 olympics in korea, i ran into dr. lee and asked him why this samoan american gregg louganis was so good in high diving? he said look at his legs. he has strong legs because of the strength he gets from his legs he is able to jump higher than other divers to do more difficult tricks. i said that's an interesting thing to know. i've also mentioned that maybe of -- many of our young asian-pacific americans in the nfl. today, the 2010 nfl draft, there were seven young men. four samoans, one hawaiian, they were selected to seven different teams across the nation. sometimes, mr. speaker, i usually have to give a les

david lee miller is live in louisiana and, david lee, has bp been able to stop the flow of oil into theof mexico? >> reporter: bp, to answer your question, directly, has not stopped the flow of oil into the gulf. but, they have said, juliett, that this particular plan would not stop the oil entirely. what this would do is essentially reduce the amount of oil that is flowing into the gulf. and, now, for the first time, if we are to believe what is happening, bp, at this very hour, has now found a way to take at least some of that oil, from the pipeline, and funnel it up to a tanker on the surface and how much of the oil is diverted to the tanker? that is the $64,000 question. bp was asked that today at a news conference and the company said it couldn't really answer how much oil, they were actually able to contain at this time. but, they say whatever that figure is, they will gradually increase it, and, this is certainly, they say, a step in the right direction. juliett. >> juliet: if we could replay that graphic once again, because i think it was very good at explaining what visually, w
