abc 7 news reporter lena howland joins us live from the san francisco general hospital where a clinical be set up will stop what can you tell us about these developments? lena: san francisco announced they will be getting 1600 doses from the federal supply and they will be able to stretch that in order to get five doses out of each one of those 1600 vials. the city's department of public health says in order to receive this massive allotment they must now switch over to intradermal injections, which means injecting the vaccine between layers of skin. this will produce nearly 8000 doses of vaccine, five times the amount of files they are currently receiving. the hospital had been averaging 600 to 700 doses a day, spreading out their vaccine shipments over multiple days. we saw multiple monkeypox vaccine clinics over the weekend in nevada and oakland, hearing from many folks thankful to be getting the vaccine. >> i just got my first dose of the monkeypox vaccine and i am excited about it and a little bit less stressed. lena: this comes as cases of monkeypox are increasing across the bay a

abc news reporter lena howland has more. lena: the environmental watchdog group san francisco bay keepers says in early august they started to get reports of red and brown water in the oakland estuary. at the same time they started getting reports of dead fish in the water. scientists founded to be a red tide algae bloom. that bloom emits official -- commits a fish toxin. they say the algae are a normal part of the ecosystem, normally at levels that are harmless. scientists say nutrients from the 40 wastewater treatment plants around the bay area are supercharging the algae to reproduce in huge quantities. we spoke with one man who has been coming to explore for decades and says he saw thousands of dead fish. >> striped bass to bat raise, everything that needs oxygen is dying in the lake. lena: the good news is experts say the algae will likely die off on its own, especially in colder water, but they still worry about the long-term consequences, such as two endangered fish. the algae does not pose a real threat to people or p

neighbors first started to smell and then see the problem over the weekend abc 7 news reporter lena howlando toe in protective gear crews got to work on wednesday starting the daunting task of removing dead fish after dead fish lining the outside ring of lake merritt starting to wash up on shore. we're seeing them around the circumference of the lake likes it just about three miles around. so we're going to be going all the way around because we've seen and and her reports from the community about observing this phenomenon around the the whole lake shawn maher spokesman from the city of oakland's public works department says it's coming from a regional algae bloom impacting miles of shoreline in the east bay. it was harmful enough for the city to caution people. to stay out of the water and to keep their pets out of the water too, but it wasn't until this past weekend when they started to seeca level of fish and wildlife die off the environmental watchdog group. san francisco bay keeper says not only does the algae emit a fish toxin. it is associated with the biological event. that sucks th
