lester? >> all right, kelly. you think about it, the pope taking the podium, flanked by our first catholic vice president, our catholic speaker of the house, john boehner, who has tried for 20 years to get a pope to visit congress. no surprise that a lawmaker known for showing his emotions found himself wiping away tears. for a moment, a law making body known for partisan feuding came together, soon as the pope waded into hot button issues, we saw signs of differences come through. chuck todd watched it closely. what were your take aways? >> on the political front, tom covered it well when he noted there was something for everybody in there, and everybody's ideology. to me, the larger message that i am curious to see if it will last among members of congress was this message that he had of the common good, pragmatism, he was basically lecturing those 535 members of congress on polarization, and he didn't say it that way, he talked about -- he used examples of other americans in our history who have used democracy

lester. >> taty tour, katy tur, thanks. another chapter in what seems the never ending story of her e-mails. it turns out the fbi has recovered deleted personal and work e-mails from her private computer service. andrea mitchell has been following this story for us. >> lester, that is right. just when hillary clinton was trying to get out from under the controversy, new reports that the fbi has been able to recover some of the deleted e-mails, both personal and work related from the private service. she turned over the server to the fbi last month after they started to investigate how classified information was handled on her private account. the recovery of her additional e-mails shsh ensures this will be a drip, drip from this issue. and a new poll today has and joe biden who has yet to decide if he is running and bernie sanders closing in on clinton. clinton is at 33% and biden at 25% and sanders at 24%. biden advisers say he will likely make a decision in time to be on the stage for the first democratic debate next mont

>> well, lester, it doesn't look great right now. this is a storm that is going to grow in strength. as you mentioned right now it's 175 miles east-northeast of the central bahamas. 85-mile-per-hour winds moving southwest at 8 so forward speed has started to pick up. we already have hurricane watches and warnings for the bahamas. five to ten inches of rain, some areas up to 20 inches of rain. and as it makes its way toward the bahamas tonight on into tomorrow it becomes a category 3 storm some time friday afternoon. it continues its path paralleling the coast and then making landfall sunday afternoon as a category 2 storm but continues inland as a tropical storm with winds of up to 65 miles per hour and the rainfall amounts anywhere from five to ten inches of rain, gusts to 40 miles per hour starting saturday night, high surf, beach erosion, power outages, flooding. lester, this is going to last right on into monday morning and early monday afternoon. >> i know you'll have updates on the "today" show tomorrow. al, thanks very much. >

>> lester, he did. he answered seven questions, including one about all the criticism that he is an anticapitalist lefty, and criticism that he's not catholic enough to be the pope. the pope says every word he says comes from the social doctrine of the church. he says he understands that some people might consider what he said a little leftish, as he termed it, but he said no that would be a misinterpretation. he did give us a preview of what he's going to say to congress on thursday when he addresses that historic joint session. he said he's not going to bring up the u.s. embargo on cuba. he said that is part of the negotiations between the two countries, but he said he is going to talk about the importance of multinational agreements. the pope is a big backer of the iran nuclear deal. the open also described his meeting with fidel castro, saying it was informal. lester, i have to tell you, i'm just stunned by this welcome. there are kids screaming and singing and dancing. and you can absolutely feel t

>> reporter: good evening, lester. magnitude 8.3, this is the strongest earthquake on the planet this year. it was centered off the coast about 140 miles from chile's capital city santiago where buildings were seen swaying. many captured the tremors on video. there are reports of damage, injuries and at least one fatality in a coastal town closest to the epicenter. the santiago airport has been evacuated as a precaution. this earthquake triggers a tsunami alert for chile's entire coast with the possibility of big waves striking later tonight. so many are already evacuating. a tsunami watch was also issued for hawaii, which is more than 6,000 miles from chile. since the initial jolt, several strong aftershocks have been reported. chile is prone to earthquakes. the strongest one ever recorded on earth happened there in 1960. it was a magnitude 9.5. lester. >> joe fryar in los angeles, thank you. >>> if you see something, say something. that is the mantra in this age of terror. but a troubling story out of texas has many
