this morning mayor sam liccardo visited with some of the people forced out by this fire. >> when you have a rope coming off the balcony, that is a rescue. firefighters act sod incredibly, effectively to get everybody out of the apartment building without any injury at all. >> i heard someone yell fire, fire. they were running down the street. so i got up and put on clothes and ran outside and the apartment next to us there was two apartments up in flames. >> reporter: this was a five alarm fire. meaning extra crews had to be called in from across the city to battle the flames and rescue people from their units. the apartment building that caught fire has a total of 36 unites. all of them were damaged in some way. either by the flames or by smoke. it's unclear when people will be able to return to their apartments. everyone is getting help from the city and of course the red cross. as for the cause of this fire, an arson investigator was called out here to the scene but at this point there is nothing to suggest the fire was suspicious in nature. in san jose alex savage ktvu fox 2 news
