linda. >>reporter: the fire is now out, you can see the two firefighters on the ladder truck up there. they're just using some water to wet the building down, making sure there are no hot spots. here's what happened, around 4:00 this morning a three-story building caught fire. it happened to be vacant and the third floor collapsed onto the second. we're told no one was inside that building, no one was hurt, but there was some damage next door to the chinese carryout. we're told a woman who lives there, a pregnant woman suffered a cut to her hand as she was try to go get out. she was treated here on scene and taken to a local hospital. we're also told a firefighter cut his foot. he was taken to the local hospital, about 60 firefighters responded to the scene here. this was a two-alarm fire. they got things under control pretty quickly. again, the fire right now is out, but you can see firefighters, fire trucks covering most of this street here. so you can expect some road closures in the area

linda stow is live there on the scene right now with a live interview. linda, what do you know?orter: the fire is out. firefighters are just now using their ladder trucks to wet the building and make sure all the hot spots are out. joining us this morning is kevin cartwright, information officer with the fire department. kevin, tell us what happened here. >> good morning, linda. just after 4:00 a.m. we received a call for a building fire in the 1200 block of west baltimore streets. when arriving to the scene, the units found a three-story brick building with heavy fire conditions and a collapse of the third floor into the second. right now we had a firefighter that suffered a minor laceration to her foot, a civilian woman who suffered a laceration to her hand, we believe being taken from the scene. what exactly caused the fire, we don't know just yet. we have fire investigations on standby to make some assessments once the fire has been determined safe. >>reporter: there was some damage done to the building next door, it happened to be a chinese carryout and the woman was pregna

i want to bring up linda brown. she's the key to all of this. linda brown was a young girl who resided in topeka, kansas. let's me clear. topeka, kansas, is not the deep south. but kansas maintained a segregated school system. linda brown was bussed and i use this word intentionally, i use it for dramatic effect. she was based across town to go to a segregated black school even though she lived two blocks away from a white school. we talk about it and maybe rightly so how bussing is used to promote racial integration and how that creates disharmony and that's correct but what about bussing being used for years to maintain racial segregation? in other words the bus was going in the opposite direction in order to make sure that blacks were in all-black schools. the other thing that's interesting about the brown suit, and this is all by circumstance, the famous supreme court case became the brown case essentially because oliver brown the plaintiff, the father of linda brown came first on the alphabetical role. in other words his name came up before

abc2 linda so is live this morning in south baltimore right near the harbor tunnel. good morning linda. how is traffic looking so far? >> reporter: good morning lauren. things look fine right now. we're not quite into the morning rush just yet. but they do tell us you should expect backups. right now we're right on 895 before the harbor tunnel heading southbound. we spoke with construction crews about 30 minutes ago who tell us just beyond this tunnel and the toll plaza is where the construction is going on. they have the lanes narrowed down to one and crews are resurfacing the steel bridge that's just south of the harbor tunnel. one lane will be closed for the next eight weeks and then in august it will get worse. one lane in each direction will be shut down. that means you should expect major backups going both ways. so your best bet avoid the harbor tunnel instead take either 695 and the key bridge or 95 and the fort mchenry tunnel. again, right now, the 5:00 hour traffic is running along smoothly. but mdta tells us that when these -- they narrow down the lanes in
