service stations in residential districts may not be compatible with housing but do contribute to livability by providing a service that's essential to many san franciscoians. the proposal ordinance attempts to address noise and traffic effects that may be caused when this new use is introduced. noise and exhaust from increased traffic and potential pedestrian car conflicts are to be taken into account. establishing a car wash does not meet our threshold as far as ceqa is concerned for required traffic studies. we were a little bit hesitant on that criteria and we were worried it might create a precedence where any potentially nauseous use would have to be to do this traffic study and might set a precedent for proposals we don't think is appropriate. therefore, we'd recommend that condition be removed but rather through your conditional use authorization you'd look at each case by case and make a determination at that time if additional analysis were needed. so that concludes the department recommendation for this plan. i'd like to introduce dominica henderson from professor olague 's office

keeping streets clean, businesses, supporting small businesses, maintaining and making sure the city is livable for everyone. no one really looked to their neighbors. they stayed within their neighborhood, but did not reach beyond the boundaries. that is one thing i saw that i actually made a concerted effort on the campaign to build bridges. for me, that goes beyond the neighborhood. it goes to connecting the southeast to the large part of san francisco, wake up, we're out here. we want bike paths, dog parks, open space. we no longer want to have a neighborhood or a reputation of a crime-filled community. the other thing that i learned is really, we are all human. how to connect with that spirit, whether you're living in public housing, owning your own property, your asian, african american, we are all one. we are a community. when we realize and move in the direction of being a human's and having this human experience, connecting together, really be each other's keeper, then san francisco begins to drive. i also learned through the endorsement process -- you go through this process to get end

community arts space is that i just love, and it makes our neighborhoods a much more colorful and livable as well. >> what motivated your interest in politics? >> i guess i have always been passionate about civil rights and equality for everyone, and i have a 10-year-old daughter, so having a girl has made me much more sensitive to gender equality and other issues, but i guess i have always been someone that is vocal about my politics, but as a supervisor, and having to listen to many perspectives before making key decisions. as an activist in chinatown, i have always felt that working families and people who work in our neighborhoods need to have much more support. it is always about giving more voice to immigrants or the underserved and workers in the city. that is what drives my passion as a supervisor. >> tell me about the process of running for supervisor. what did you learn from the campaign process? was anything surprising? supervisor mar: i had to move from being a regular person that barely gets his kid to school on time and makes her a healthy lunch to having to go to a photo op
