ÑiÑi ñr Ñiñrçów3Ñi >> mitchell: fargo, north dakota, and a neighboring moorehead, minnesota, are facing their third bout of spring flooding in three years from the red river which is expected to crest today just short of recorr levels. more than 600 national guard members are helping residents shore up dikes and other flood barriers. this year many residents are abandoning back-breaking sandbags for other technology, including tubes of water and aqua fences. some tributaries have flooded communities north of fargo. we have the latest tonight. rachel, good evening. >> reporter: good evening, russ. this is some of the worst flooding that we've seen so far this year. we're about 10 miles northwest of fargo, and the rural areas have really had a problem with overland flooding. neighbors in this community say this is the worst flooding they have seen ever, even worse than 2009 when the red river hit some of the highest peaks ever. they said what makes this year different is the wat

the bodies of several women dumped on long island.ere is peter alexander. >> reporter: what started as a hunt along long island's south shore, an effort to find a missing prostitute named shannon gilbert, has quickly evolved into a gruesome murder mystery. the first discovery last december when investigators found four bodies in three days, then late last months, another body, then this week, the remains of three more. >> we're doing as thorough a search as we can. a diligent, systematic, and thorough search. >> detectives say the first four women found were the victims of a serial killer, all of them prostitutes in their 20s who advertised for clients on craig's list, including kimberly's sister, amber costello. >> it's sad, and i just wanted to get a chance to see where my sister was. >> these grim discoveries mark the third serial killer murders involving prostitutes here on long island in more than two decades. for now, the scenic beach-front communities are deserted, their residents stunned. gilbert, just 24, was seen running awa

>>reporter: the search is ramping up for more possible human remains on long island. potential victims of a serial killer police believe is still on the list. a painstaking search continues along the shore. the fbi prominently involved. >> in the last couple of weeks, we became involved with the evidence response teams carry they have advanced imaging technologies which they think may be able to help us. >>reporter: since december search teams have uncovered the remains of at least eight bodies, for identified as prostitutes. monday as a human skull was uncovered as well. >> were waiting for the forensic analysis of the remains that of been recently found as well as those found in naso county. when we get those answers, as soon as we possibly can we will make that information available. >>reporter: research initially began for missing 24 year-old escort chanting gilbert was last seen alive in may of last year around the beach area. her sisters was started their own search say, they believe shannon was running from danger. >> her phone records we determine her last cal

and he probably does work on long island, lives on long island, or grew up on long island.can be the type of worker that goes there at a particular time of the year. long island is obviously busier in the summer. so, he clearly is comfortable with that road. >> a lot of dots to be connected to be able to solve this. we have heard that one of the remains is that of a child. how does that fit a possible profile? >> obviously, we don't know. but it's not uncommon that these women have children. and did he get into a situation with one of them that her child was there? and so, he just disposed of the child as another witness. >> and we've been hearing how they've been saying that it's possible that they had some kind of law enforcement background, the person or people involved in this. what makes them think that? >> i think because he's using prepaid cell phones. he's making calls from populated areas. and those two things, primarily, are telling them, could be. but the thing of it is, it could be an intelligence officer. it could be somebody from the military. you can learn th
