union support. back on november 2 "occupy" protestors effectively shut down the port of oakland in large part due to the over 10,000 people who joined in. a large number of them were international longshoremen warehouse union workers but this time union isn't going to back the port shutdown siding with the port of oakland commissioners instead. in a full-page ad the port says, "shutting down the port of oakland is a bad idea. another shutdown only makes things worse diverting cargo, tax revenue and jobs to other communities. it will hurt working people. it will harm our community. but the "occupy" protestors are firing back saying it's a matter of people over profit. they want to bring attention to what they call our poor working conditions at the ssa terminal in l.a. and for firing truck drivers who unionize. that terminal is partially owned by goldman sachs. the investment bank got billions in bailout money from the t.a.r.p. they also want to highlight the issue of using nonunionized labor. they say companies don't pay fica taxes or workers' comp. which means these companies continue to make more money. on monday they plan to rally at frank ogawa plaza at 3 p.m. and march to the port of o
