lonnie rivera is at santa cruz. francis, you're watching our storm system. >> reporter: we have seen relentless rain over the last few hours. i will take you live doppler 7. just nonstop this morning. we will zoom in tighter to heavier rain falling in parts of the peninsula and south san francisco. to give you an idea of how much rain this is the areas of orange that's a rate of about .7 inches an hour. the areas of yellow about a quarter inch an hour. we will continue to see this all day which is where there is a flash flood warning that's been issued by the national weather service for many areas, you can see highlighted in green, parts of the north bay and seen santa cruz and monterey bay. on our storm impact scale this is a strong storm it ranks a level three. downpours throughout the day, damaging winds with gusts up to 65 miles per hour, all those warnings in effect and we are going to see the heaviest rain in the next few hours. cheryl. >> frances, thanks very much. let's head to santa cruz county where the s

abc 7 news reporter lonnie rivera has more on the heroic rescue effort. >> construction rocks rolledver once and came, landed on its wheels in the creek and was carried down a creek approximately 20 feet to where it become lodged on a rock. >> reporter: the fire department's water rescuers responded to this emergency. a subaru stuck in austin creek inside this car a 67-year-old woman managed to stay above water in the backseat with her dog for eight hours. >> she's relieved and very calm. >> reporter: gabe and corey are part of a newly trained water rescue teal. they used this equipment for the first time in a real-life situation. >> we got the life jacket on and if we head to the far side of the creek, there is less current and it got shallower and shallower. >> reporter: the car landed on its wheels and a rock kept it from moving. those circumstances worked in the driver's favor, plus, emergency officials say the victim handled it well by remaining calm. >> she didn't get out of the vehicle, which was a major play because the water is moving pretty quick, probably would have swept

abc7 news reporter lonni rivera is live for us in san jose. >> reporter: natasha and reggie, that family was attending a cheerleading competition in southern california. the pilot and two others died. two women survived and we're hearing they're in critical condition this morning. here's a look at the scene from a cell phone video of the fiery crash. the plane took off from riverside heading back to san jose when it crashed into a neighborhood near the airport. the fire raged through homes as firefighters searched for victims. >> all five victims were from the aircraft itself. we have confirmed that we do have three deceased on scene. our firefighters did make, again, aggressive rescue to rescue two of the victims that are at local hospitals. >> reporter: no residents were injured, but ntsb investigators will search the neighborhood today to make sure, but they believe everyone has been accounted for. two homes that were hit directly were destroyed, so today, the red cross is helping those families with shelter and counseling. meantime, friends here in the bay area are saying the pilot w

lonnie rivera joins us with a closer look. >> reporter: that's right. in fact this road is closed down. crews have two big jobs on their hands here, first, restore power to several homes because a tree hit a power pole. second, they have to remove the branches and trunk resting on top of a car. this really has been a familiar situation all day. in fact one tree removal service says they have handled a half dozen calls about toppled trees. this one fell on a car in the 3000 block of park avenue north of so cal. fortunately, no one was inside the car. on the other side of park avenue, this eucalyptus tree crashed into the backyard of several homes. crews had to close down the road and then piece by piece remove these huge pieces of timber. >> well, with the winds, strong winds, one big ole eucalyptus fell and hit a couple of houses up there. >> another close call for the residents who heard it falling, the tree braced the branches of the eucalyptus so by the time it landed on the duplex, it was already broken into branches. the family was inside. they did
