meteorologist christina loren is watching that radar. she's also going to give you an update on snowfall in the sierra. anthony slaughter keeping an eye on the roadway. both with live updates throughout the morning. stay with nbc bay area. you can stay with the forecast for your android or iphone for free. >>> in other news and breaking news in santa clara, all northbound lanes of highway 101 are open once again this morning after a deadly crash shut those lanes down for hours overnight. it happened at the exit for delacruz boulevard north of the airport. this is what's left of one of those cars involved. the chp says a witness saw a pickup truck hit a stalled car on the shoulder on the freeway. that stalled car then caught fire and the person inside was trapped and died inside that car. the fire burned for more than an hour. the cause of the crash is now under investigation. >>> the attack so vicious it could make your stomach churn. now the man accused of attacking a homeless man in san francisco last week will be in court later today.

i'm meteorologist christina loren. it is a chilly start to the day. we also have patchy fog out there this morning. what a difference a day makes. over the past 24 hours big-time changes. we started out mostly clear yesterday. we have that thick fog and drizzle back at the coast for this morning. let's talk about what's really going on today. what we're expected about here at nbc bay area. the giants home opener, comfortable conditions. it will be on the cool side. you want to watch for this wind out of the west at 15 miles per hour. flags flowing out towards center field. could actually pick up and carry that ball. the wind will be on the strong side. fifth inning, 60 degrees. by the time people start to make their way home, chilly condition, into the upper 50s. today will be the coolest of the week. p.m. clouds will steadily increase. that's courtesy of an area of low pressure that could bring us some showers as we head throughout tonight in the north bay. what we're really expecting though are the temperatures to tumble today. a little coastal fog

we'll start things off with meteorologist christina loren. set the scene for us. we see lots of colors on your radar. >> more like april downpours than april showers this morning. what you will notice is a lot of the heavy activity is over your inland valley spots. we're getting a little break from the yellow and red at the immediate coast but take a look at some of our totals so far. very impressive numbers. lake sonoma, under an inch and a half. fremont picked up over 0.86, same for saratoga and berkeley on the way to half an inch of rain. with more on the way, the heavy stuff is going to continue to come through. between now and i'd say the 8 a.m. hour at this point because the system is slowing down. in addition to the fierce wind we have out there, you have the rain coming in. the two elements combined are creating kind of dangerous conditions out there. which is why we want to send it over to anthony slaughter. he's been tracking a traffic alert involving a jack-knifed big rig. >> all lanes are closed within the last half hour. the big rig jack-knifed at nor

checking the temperatures with meteorologist christina loren. good morning. >> good morning to you. yeah, i think a lot of people will be happy to hear the temperatures are going to be significantly cooler than yesterday. we had a couple of records out there. today, starting out in the 50s. by lunchtime in the 60s for most of us, except for the tri-val y tri-valley. north bay, two warmest microclimates will be in the 70s at that point. that's where you will stay. 9 in the north bay. 78 degrees in the tri-valley. i want to show you these amazing pictures out of tahoe. look at how low the lake is because we didn't get that snowpack that we needed so desperately this year. this is having a big impact on people who live and work out here. these pictures are courtesy of la laketahoenews.net. it's showing how bad the drought has been in this area. we do have a couple of warnings for you. the coast guard actually had to move their boat launch to another pier. if you're going to be headed out there i'm going to give you tips in a moment. but the lake is at its lowest level since 1992. the s
