they had been living in loudoun county. now the mother is in jail and she's on her way home to a father and. brianne carter joins us in alexandria with the latest. >> good morning. we understand from authorities that it was a tip that came in at the national center for missing and exploited children that allow detectives to locate the now 12-year-old girl in our area. we understand detectives calling upon the tips were able to locate the mother identified as 39-year-old maria cano in the sterling neighborhood. we understand according to authorities it was in its february of 2006 that the 6- year-old child was reported missing by her father. at the time it was suspected the mother had taken the child and left the country. they believed at the time there were in a stolen silver 2004 dodge neon that was never recovered. now we know they were located in. sterling in the mother maria is now being held in the loudoun county detention center without bond waiting to be extradited back to california. authorities tell us it's on char

phase two will extend from reston to dulles airport and into loudoun county. the project, however, still remains in jeopardy. the state has backed off from paying $300 million toward the project. and loudoun county still has to approve their funding. >>> a maryland man recovering this morning. he spent nine hours stranded in the chilly chesapeake bay. 18-year-old thomas lundval was sailing this weekend. his boat capsized. according to "the capital" newspaper, a freighter spotted the man clinging to the hull of the boat. rescuers say he had trouble breathing when they reached him. his body temperature was about 88 degrees. tom kierein says the water temperature was likely in the mid 50s this weekend. >> wow. >>> dangerous winds led to not one but two water rescues at the tidal basin. the wind blew three people up against the cutts bridge along the independence avenue yesterday afternoon. a rescue boat managed to reach them, but then the workers fell in the water. they were trying to get the boats back to shore. one worker had to go to the hospital. we're told t

some are calling it an epidemic, the number of lime disease cases in loudoun county are on the rise. it is the worst place in the state for it. now a plan is in place to try to turn things around. audrey barnes is in the newsroom. i understand you didn't have trouble finding evidence of this. >> no, i really didn't. it really is a health crisis there. i found five families on one street with at least one person with it, and most had a parent or one or two kids with the disease. for them this effort is long overdue. >> reporter: friends linda and patty have more in common than being teachers. they have severe cases of lyme disease. >> i taught kindergarten at an elementary school and obviously when this happened with my voice, i can't teach any more. >> reporter: her life now revolves around treating her lyme disease. >> and i give myself i.v. medicine. takes about an hour every day to giver myself all my i.v. medicine and in addition to this i take about 30 pills every day as well. >> reporter: linda was diagnosed with lyme eight years ago, and two of her three children have it, too.
