[applause] great to see you. welcome. questions from the press? we would be happy to take them. yes? >> on housing, the federal government has not really been in the housing business for quite a while. isn't it up to the local level? and what are you expecting from the federal government? >> part of the reason we find ourselves in the supply crisis we find ourselves in is because the federal government has not believed involved. if we are going to invest in bipartisan, historic, transformational ways in infrastructure, we ought to do that as -- in housing as well. mostly -- most of the officials i talked to have stressed to me that we need zoning code reform, land use changes that need to be driven by the local level, but there is an openness to supporting making more federal programs because that is part of it, making it easier for local governments to access federal funding, but it is also about more investments coming directl

it also applies to places like louisville.gly welcomed reform after those consent decrees were put in place. so i think that's notable. but then there's the other piece of this where doj has also ordered its civil rights division to halt any investigations that started under the biden administration. so are there more cases than just louisville and milwaukee? what's on your radar? >> there are tons of cases that are out there. you're talking about memphis having a consent decree issue, a number of different violations, but not just what is already existing. ali, think about the potential for future violations after police misconduct and wrongdoing. that's also a question. how will that civil rights office of this department of justice go about the investigation and the prosecution of law enforcement moving forward? and on the civil side, consider this. the civil rights act of 1964 is literally just one generation old before it is essentially trying to be dismantled. as a former federal trial attorney with the eeoc. i can tell

and especially louisville and areas south where you could have the snow start up with this event 8 to4in and then actually transition to freezing rain and get a large amount of ice on top of that. and that is especially dangerous. and there can be prolonged power outages in some of these areas that get more of the ice. in addition to the snow. >> now, of course, today it's going to be bad, but tomorrow, monday was always going to be a giant commuter day for all the people who maybe took off thursday and friday after the new year than the weekend going getting back to work. how much of an issue is this still going to be heading into the beginning of next week for commuters? >> yeah, that's a great point. and you know, the storm will be shifting from the ohio valley from those areas i mentioned into the mid-atlantic during that time frame. so we're very concerned about the morning commute in the d.c. region especially. that's going to be the biggest metro region in the mid-atlantic that's impacted by this. and in there, we could see 6 to 8in of snow. um, there will be a little bit of a

. >> lexington and louisville in kentucky, getting hit hard as well as the storm continues to move to the east, many remain under winter weather alerts across the region. >> well, for more what's in store, let's bring in william churchill. he's a forecaster with the national weather service, joining us from college park, maryland, just outside washington, dc. so how are things looking? it's pretty treacherous. >> yeah, absolutely. this has been quite a winter storm already with widespread 12 to 18 inch totals from central kansas to the kansas city metro area of missouri. and that's the heaviest in decades. and travel, as you were saying, remains hazardous there. and we're really just getting going here in the dc region. so we've, you know, already picked up 2 to 3in of snow and we'll probably see 6 to 12in by the end of it. and possibly even higher amounts locally. >> how do you think this is going to affect the funeral? because obviously there will be movement. and in terms of that area, is that going to be particularly bad? >> well, hopefully, you know, the the shutdowns that you me
