and on sunday, democratic candidates will be in the lowcountry for a debate in downtown charleston. lexington leaders hope fema can lend a hand -- to fix a historical spot in the town. the pond that sits near the old mill in lexington has been empty since the october floods. heavy rains caused the dam that sits around it to breach leaving a massive hole behind. the owner of the dam says it could cost up to five million dollars to fix. town leaders have reached out to fema for financial help. a walking trail for the town was supposed to go over the dam so they're hoping the feds will view it as public space. a meeting on the dam is scheduled for next month. lexington is also kicking off the new year by launching projects designed to cut down on traffic. the town installed new 'in sync' traffic signals at five intersections close to downtown. that includes where east main street as well as lake drive. town officials say the new signals don't change based on a timer but rather how many cars are building up at the light. if the number of cars is over the average for a given time, the li
