lowe. today, nebraska's ponca state park held a unique competition that's nationally recognized-- a fruit cake fling. residents from the tri- state area each threw a fruit cake to see who could chuck it the farthest. ktiv's tommie clark joins us live in the newsroom. tommie, you were there today, what did participants say was the best part? robert, although the fruit cake fling was fun, competitors say it's more than that.it's the family time that comes with it. << ponca state park's 4th annual winterfest celebration has lots of fun activities, but their national fruit cake fling is the highlight of the day. "we were talking about how much we didn't like fruit cakes and who eats them and we thought what can we do with those and decided we're gonna throw them for distance," said ponca state park superintendent, jeff fields. around 50 people in different age groups fling a fruit cake as far as they can. the record distance was set tw years ago... with a people clapping and cheering.
