(lydia) in livermore..e have identified the man killed in a officer involved shooting earlier this week as james terry midkiff. police shot and killed midkiff on wednesday night. it started when police received a call about a man threatening people at a home near east airway boulevard and portola avenue. police say midkiff then made suicidal comments and several shots were fired inside the home. four officers are on administrative leave because of the incident this morning. ( lydia ) it happened just before 9 last night on via deste.ers were called to the area after witnesses say a person was acting bizarrely and challenging people to a fight. the person refused to listen to officers commands and went into a home where they armed themselves with a gun. police negotiated with the person for a few hours before a fire was lit inside the home and the person came out the home with a shotgun. that's when officers shot him. the person was pronounced dead at the scene. fire crews put out the fire inside the home. no officers or other people were hurt. we'll bring you more information on this story as it enters our newsroom.

( darya ) four teenagers have been arrested for a series of violent robberies on muni. a 13-year-old girl and 14-year-old boy from san francisco as well as a 15- year-old san leandro boy were arrested for what police are calling brutal robberies. according to police-- the teens followed a man onto a bus and then attacked him and stole his cell phone. they are facing a string of charges including suspicion of robbery and conspiracy. police also arrested 19-year-old clay doss from antioch. they say he was also involved in the robberies. doss was already in custody for an unreleated warrant. ( lydia ) hundredsf counter- protesters are expected to show up in san francisco this weekend. those who plan to face off at crissy field saturday are doing so despite san francisco mayor ed lee's suggestion to avoid confrontation. he would like counter-protestors to take part in activities scheduled for civic center plaza. many counter protesters are pointing to this past weekend's rally in boston as an example of how counter protests can be effective. the park service still hasn't decided whether to issue a final permit for the alt-right rally at crissy field. a final decision is expected by friday. ( lydia ) breaking news this morning...ested the man wanted for a murder in belmont. early this morning police arrested jovhon stewart. stewart is accused of opening fire saturday night at an apartment building on ralston avenue. 24-year-old dejohn jones was killed. police arrested stewart at the union city bart station. he is charged with murder. police are still looking for the gun used in the shooting. ( darya ) one of the two people accused of murdering and robbing a man at twin peaks last month made his first court appearance. lamonte mims did not enter a plea. prosecutors say they have surveillance video of mims and the other suspect-- fantasy decuir-- killing ed french. according to prosecutors, the video shows decuir firing the gun. she is currently in the hospital and did not appear in court. prosecutors say mims is the french's after decuir shot him.

( lydia ) happening now...police in the east bay are looking for a motorcycle driver who hit a jogger in contra costa county. it happened last night on wildcat canyon road just west of inspiration point near orinda. (ááátriggerááá) police say the jogger was left with life threatening injuries. witnesses say the motorcycle was driving at high speeds and was crossing the double yellow line. police do not have a description of the bike. witnesses say the driver was wearing a yellow helmet and was last seen driving west on wildcat canyon road towards berkeley. (mark) lydia pantazes is live at the scene with the overnight developments. lydia. a look behind me, oakland police still have this entrance into grizzly peak boulevard closed off.we do know there are firefighters on scene watching for hotspots.(take vo)let's take a look at video of the fire.the video of the fire, its burning about 3/4 of a mile from where we are standing.this is what it looked like just after the fire started. you can see the helicopters dropping water from above. this fire started just after one on wednesday afternoon near tilden park and above uc berkeley. you can actually see memorial stadium from where these flames burned. no homes or structures burned during this fire. we do know an inmate firefighter was hurt after falling from part of a cliff. he has been taken to the hospital. at one point this was what crews call a five alarm fire. at least 12 departments responded. (oncam) we did see one oakland firefighter come through here as they change shifts...of course they're keeping on eye on hotspots especially because of the warm weather.reporti

lydia.s inside this costco store where investigators say three suspects smashed jewelry cases and stole several pieces.let's take a look at the surveillance video.it shows the men running into the store wearing surgical masks.they ran directly over to the jewelry section and investigators say they used a hammer to smash the cases and stole several pieces of jewelry.the men then ran out of the store and got into a dark colored four door sedan similar to a chevy sonic with paper dealer plates.no weapons were seen and no one was injured.this isn't the first time a bay area costco has been targeted in a smash and grab.similar incidents have happened in danville and foster city.if you have any information on this robbery please call the novato police department.reporting live in novato, lydia pantazes kron4 news. (darya) and a major bart closure to tell you about this weekend. people planning on riding trains through oakland may need to make alternate plans. bart crews will be working on the tracks meaning the lake merrit station will be closed saturday through monday. the closure will impact customers traveling on the warm springs, dublin/pleasant on, and oakland airport lines. bart will instead provide free buses for riders with tickets to connect to other stations. but expect about a 30- minute delay. ( darya ) there is growing excitement about today's eclipse around the bay area. the lawrence hall of science in berkeley... hosted an "eve of totality" celebration yesterday. this gave families a chance to study up on what to expect this morning. kids poked holes in index cards, learning how to look at the sun's shadow during an eclipse. they also used solar telescopes to check out sun spots. they explored the scale of the moon and the sun... and how precise they have to be lined up for there to be an eclipse. ( lydia ) rightw, things are quiet but there are already signs up warning people that they won't be able to park in certain areas ahead of the protest tomorrow. the fencing already started going up at crissy field. guns and other things that could be used as weapons or safety gear will not be allowed in the designated protest area. there are at least 4-counter protest groups expected to end up at crissy field saturday. there will also be closures around the golden gate bridge during the rally. only tour buses will be allowed in the parking lot north of the bridge. no personal cars will be allowed from 11am to 5pm. all of the parking lots south of the bridge will be closed.
