devastating events have left their mark on a number of bay area communities and bob redell outside lynbrook high school and christie smith in fremont where the mother of one of the victims is getting ready to leave for southern california this morning. good morning. >> good morning, scott. we spoke with a family friend of weihan wang tearful and distraught over what happened. she immigrate would the family from china to the united states ten years ago and at this point authorities say it's unclear whether the 20-year-old was a roommate to elliot rodger or just a visitor. he was one of three young men stabbed to death in rodger's apartment. part of rodger's deadly shooting spree. she held back tears as she talked about wang who she says was a graduate. in china there is a one-child policy. he was the center of the family. >> they are really sad? >> yeah. definitely. only one kid, only one son. >> now she worries about sending her own child to college next year who is a 16-year-old. she says weihan wang was a computer science major and the family is headed down to santa barbara this morning.
