five years ago, the body of 58-year-old lynn spaulding was also found in the stairwell. in her case chef missing for 17 days, the stairwell was in the hospital building. david perry was a good friend of spauldings' her case sparked security change at the hospital. >> i can't imagine what the family of this poor woman is going through, more to the point what this poor woman went through. you're going to be a place of healing and you're supposed to be safe. >> an updated schedule for 10:00 a.m. thursday. in san francisco, lillian kym, abc 7 news. >>> does any of this look familiar to you? the coast guard tweeted pictures today of the wreckage that includes life jackets and pieces of wooden boats with identifying marks of the vessel including the words bar ka and rio. nbc was in the area where the items were discovered. crews found clothing. no reports of accidents or missing boats. search warrant is searching for a possible ship wreck, they're asking anyone who may have information about this debris to please give them a call immediately. >>> a half dozen fires in the east

when that tragic case of lynn spaulding happened, it was clear she was a patient in the hospital so that's where all the energy and the focus went into making sure our patient care areas were secure. in hindsight, one would say, yes, we should have done it for every building on campus, but at that point we were really targeted on patient care areas and the power plant just was not something on the radar at the time. >> reporter: the incident mentioned five years ago, marcus, involved a patient at san francisco general found dead inside of a building stairwell. security and search procedures were changed after that deadly incident, but clearly not in this building we're talking about in this latest incident. they are already making changes for the power plant and may do so for some of the surrounding buildings. an autopsy is being done today to determine the cause of death. >> hopefully those changes will ensure this doesn't happen again. >>> so we sent out a push alert when that news conference started. you can download our nbc bay area app. this is free for the iphone and android devices.
