good evening i'm maggie newland, thank for joining us. it's a popular race for a good cause. today organizer of the krispy kreme challenge say a man is dead after having a heart attack in raleigh. amy cutler has details. >> reporter: you can still see tents up behind us. thousands gathering to take part in challenge. race officials confirming the victim was a 58-year-old man. they are telling us it was during the first mile of the race that he experienced some chest pains. they sea he was rushed to rex hospital where he died. the idea of the challenge is to run 2.5-miles to the krispy kreme, eat a dozen donuts, and a good cause. the event raises money for north carolina children's hospital. it's student run.

but it's going to be cold maggie newland. right now the immigrant community is helping those detained and set to be deported. it's the latest effort in recent weeks. the event is being held at the church in carey. amy cutler is live there now with more. >> reporter: family, friends, advocates, and more, dozens of them gathering behind us here at this vigil. they're here to express their concerns. at times it's been quite emotional. local teens. the first, edwin alvarez. they say he was the victim of an ice raid three weeks ago. he's currently detained in georgia. the other, santos guzman, organizers telling us he was picked up by ice two days ago. both they explained could be killed if they have to return to central america. the families as you can imagine are distraught. they're very upset. many of them however are very, very religious, and so they're holding on strongly to their faith right now. >> reporter: now organizers say these teens could be deported at any minute. there are family members of those two teens that are

i'm maggie newland. at least four buildings are damaged. carleigh griffeth is live at the scene on matthews road. carleigh. >> reporter: maggie, crews have been out here since around noon today. they are still working to try and tame this fire. you can still see lots of smoke. still pouring heavy amounts of water. they now have equipment out here digging through the debris trying to look for hot spots that could turn into another fire later tonight. i spoke to chief wayne barber. he says the buildings are so gutted it is going to be hard to tell how or where this fire started. the main building it affected was a business. robert's cabinets and tops. chief barber says with all the wood and staining material in the buildings, it acted as an accelerant. the fire quickly spread to two smaller buildings. it a fourth building was total loss w. the size of the blaze, barber says it's tough to fight. >> we made an initial attack inside and saw brick that was not going to work. we fell back to a defensive attack and used an aerial ladder to use hand

. >>> good evening i am maggie newland. our top story tonight is we have just learned new information about a crash that sent four cyclists to a hospital in johnston county on massengill pond road. the latest. >> reporter: state highway patrol or is heading out this investigation. they tell us the four cyclists and men and women were rushed to the hospital. two of them suffered head trauma. the four cyclists were headed north on massengill pond road when they were struck from behind. the daughter of the driver offering insight. her mother is too distraught to speak. she was coming up over the hill and didn't see the cyclist. she panicked. authorities say alcohol was not a factor. following the accident, her mother waited on scene. all four cyclists were taken to wake medical hospital. >> she said come down here. i said raiderette? she told me 10 times i couldn't because she was so hysterical. >> reporter: state highway patrol has not identified the cyclists at this point or the driver. we also don't know the stylistic we wi

i'm maggy newland. crews were on the scene of the four-alarm fire in sanford nearly all day. it started in a cabinetry shop and rapidly spread to another business right next to several homes. wncn's carly griffith explains why it took so long to get the fires under control. >> two businesses were lost in a fire that took multiple crews hours to tame, and now these families are left to pick up the pieces from this devastating blaze. >> there were flames shooting out of the back of the roof so it was pretty well involved >> around noon, crews from sanford and surrounding areas were called. fire chief said the flame started there and quickly worked their way through a storage book shop next door. >> we feel there's a lot of contributing factors with the age of the building, age of the wiring and materials that were stored in there, the wood, sawdust, lack of thinner, stains, that type stuff >> the owner was out of town at the time of the fire. residents say the shop had been there for decades. >> been there for 41 years, and his whole life is pretty much in there or was. >> it's
