[ applause ] >>supervisor malia cohen: good morning everyone. thank you for braving a chilly morning. today is another historic day in the bayview community. within 30 days this community will have four ground breaking events. you can applause. i agree. [ applause ] >> and not only are we having four ground breaking events but we are also creating opportunities that will serve and revitalize our community. just to recap you are thinking what are those four events? we have bayview rise. many of you might have been at the george ground breaking ceremony and hunters view and here today the bayview hunters point, the opera house, the renovation. today we have another bayview contract or, come quest construction located on toll land avenue. remember we talked about the social compact of the community that there was room for everyone and contractors are going to be working. me and other department heads as well as other community partners are living up to that promise. i think it's critical when you think about the overall narrative within t

i want to give a special shout out to malia cohen. as she said we knew each other from high school, i went to phillip burton, she went to lowell, nobody's perfect. they beat us in basketball too many times. we participated in a fabulous program called the mayor's forum and instilled in us important life lessons and played an important part in where we are today. we're great examples of what you can accomplish in going through the public school's system, studying hard, staying committed and rooted in your community. thank you malia for setting a wonderful example for all of us. thank you for being here today. your spirit and energy is what black history month is all about. i attended high school here in san francisco and one of my most memorable experiences there was participating in the accept to college /prap. program. step to college is a program developed by san francisco state university designed to increase college enrollment for african american students by allowed them to transferable college credits. this is a fabulous program
