(applause) >> thank you. good morning ladies and gentlemen. so today really is a celebration no doubt. but this is truly a combination of all the work that started almost three years ago, frandelja has had a fantastic story that is rooted here in our community, started at gilman at true hope with the vision of a few community members that recognized there was a gap in service right here in the southeast. people should be able to walk their kids to school or drive a few minutes to drop their kids off. so that's when the leadership of frandelja got together. now, years passed and they came to me about three years ago and said we're in jeopardy of losing this, we need to move and find a site. i don't know if you remember that conversation, it was difficult to have, but it's true, ed lee was at the table and neighborhood and campaiommu partners as well as the developers of this project that assisted us in moving from one location to another

. >> we're joined by supervisor malia cohen, so we're going to hand it over to supervisor cohen for her remarks. >> happy new year. i'm excited to be here. and i'm happy to be talking about this particular item with you. i want to thank supervisor safai and yee and fewer for hearing this item today. i think it's incredibly important and quite frankly overdue. this ordinance that we're going to be discussing today is very straightforward and it's really an update to our administrative code. it requires that the second monday in october each year shall be known as indigenous peoples day rather than columbus day and that all city communications, notices, calendars, and any other publication, whether electronic or paper shall refer to that day as indigenous people's day. so i've circulated three amendments for your consideration today to the language that was originally introduced. first, wanted to recognize the muekma moloni as the original bay inhamburgbitants of the sa francisco bay area. and just a clarifying amendment to clarify that this ordinance shall not prohibit the city from supp

i first want to say thank you for malia cohen for taking this on and finally listening to indigenous living in san francisco because we have said several times that we want to change columbus day to indigenous peoples day, to not just recognize the alonis, but all indigenous peoples, so thank you for that. i also want to thank you for the last minute amendment. aloni is the key. i want to say this is a very important issue to vote yes on, and it's very close to my heart. a few years back i actually propose legislation to try to propose, and nothing ever happened to it. one of the reasons why i did is i was thinking about future generations, so as native american peoples were asked to think about seven generations ahead of us. one of the future generations i'm holding right now, my baby's name is the warrior that came out breathing the spring air. the reason i gave her that name is to fight for the people of san francisco because they all are native people. thank you. >> supervisor safai: thank you. any other members of the public who wish to comment on this, please come forward. seei

we had discussions with malia cohen's office and their aide. and in all of our discussions, we were not aware of any positions taken by the office, but we kept them apprised of public concern. the housing, which is noted here, is when the lot -- the lots were never divided. the lots were actually combined for billing purposes to one lot and then resplit through a compliance letter so that the intention of urban development for this site is the continuation of single-family housing. it's the type of structuresable uses that is predominant in this neighborhood and we feel it's compatible and it adds to the neighborhood by adding more housing. in this development, there's an opportunity for this site to be a buffer between the more established housing and the other housing and the park because of the landscaping and buffering that we propose on the site. we would like the opportunity to develop this property. we feel it's a good value project for an in-fill project, particularly for a site where the structure is unutilized and vacant right now. we
