i saw one interesting interaction at the manhattan bridge earlier today when just a few dozen protestersquared off against police. and nypd did sofrt a retreat. they turned around, walked away. it didn't seem worth it for them to pick that particular point of conflict. over here to the right you'll see -- i've seen this all day. people handing out free water and sign-making materials to protesters. and as we saw most of the day the crowds were really diverse. families out marching. very peaceful. it was a musical second line new orleans-style procession that went all around the city led by jean batiste, the band leader from stephen colbert's "late show." and people singing along to whitney houston songs and "when the saints go marching in." it was a very different attitude emotionally than we've seen all week as so much fear and anger and loathing. but tonight as it seems, maybe because of the political pressure on these disturbing scenes of police officers around the country, using force on protesters, that the tactic is tonight to just let the crowd move as they want to and let it diss
