marc siegel joins us now present professor of medicine at nyu langone medical center and a fox news contributordr. siegel, rebound positivity, what is it what does it mean? >> well, john, it's about the drug he took. it's very simple. it stops the virus from reproducing. it knocks it down. but it does not necessarily knock it out. so we are done with your five days, you can see the virus rebounding a little bit. what we are finding this is really interesting is with these sub variance, there's a lot more virus around. and paxlovid was actually tested against an earlier version of the virus where there was not as much virus around. what i'm getting at i think the best to look at this and maybe there's a seven-day course or an eight day course we are seeing more and more of this. we used to see a couple percentages of it now it's about 20 -- 30% i'm seeing. in a number of my cases i have to then give a second course of paxlovid. in the president's case, they are reported no new symptoms. they may decide to ride this out. i was questioning why he was so quick to come out of isolation when i listen

marc siegel. good evening, doc, what do you think about this?dent obviously for his age is in a vulnerable group. but the white house is saying they are doing everything correctly and the physician saying that as well. >> right. good evening, bret. first of all he has two high risk symptoms the one is age 79. the other is he has heart disease atrial fibrillation a rhythm problem and that puts him in high risk group. the fact that he has mild symptoms doesn't mean he couldn't worsen. on the plus side the omicron variants and subvariants are overall milder they don't deep in the lungs the way that the original covid did, sars cov 2 did. the others issue is he has had vaccinations and boosters. he has had four shots and now on paxlovid which in my experience treating many patients with it i think works very, very well in a vast majority of cases there has been a lot of talk about paxlovid rebound that only occurs about 10% of the time and you can actually give second dose package of it. i find that works. two questions that weren't really addressed
