i'm margaret brennan. this is our western edition.was a free-for-all at mall after mall last night. fists went flying. so did chairs. in some cases, word spread mistakenly through social media that shots had been fired. with all the concern over terrorism, there was mayhem as police moved in and hundreds of shoppers tried to move out, some getting trampled in the stampede. all of this took place on one of the busiest shopping days at around 15 malls across the country. one big question is whether the fights were part of an organized attempt to disrupt shopping. manuel bojorquez begins our coverage. >> reporter: this fight broke out last night at a mall in fort worth, texas. when police arrived, they found a melee of more than 100 teenagers. >> this is crazy. >> reporter: brianna austin was there and recorded it live on facebook. >> i remember people were looking for their kids. they were looking for-- they were looking for family members. i just kept hearing people, "where is somebody? where is this person?" they couldn't find them. >

right man for the job, margaret? >> i think there's a lot of questions we need to see him answer and understand how he thinks about russia. it's very easy for people to say he's too close to russia. my husband is laughing. he is one of those people -- incidentally, we're married, this person i'm disagreeing with on most of these points here. he deserves a fair hearing, he is a global -- a ceo of a global multinational company that does bilateral deals with many heads of state. he actually -- you can make a strong argument he is somebody who understands diplomacy even if it had been from the point of a businessman with the interest of his shareholders at stake. his share how woulders are the american people so you needed to have the confidence he's going to slide into a position where he's looking out for the american people's interests now rather than his shareholders. >> so you have concerns? >> i have no problem with him being a businessman. >> fareed zakaria said that doesn't preclude him from being -- >> not at a

margaret, you're a professor in sustainable waste management.ed their behaviours, they would be incentivised to do more. there are lots of schemes we have talked about, people have talked about extended producer responsibility, where the producers of waste materials might fund their collection and then be incentivised to produce less. is that a bit of an issue? where do the incentives come? for people at home to put the right stuff in the right bins, to get customers buying the right products with maybe not as much packaging as they might want to? remember that the products that are put on the shelves are done so because consumers buy them, therefore manufacturers will always produce the product that a consumer wants. but the majority of packaging, certainly food packaging these days, has got information on it so that consumers can see how to responsibly dispose of it for recycling. and certainly, the proportion of recycled material that is in packaging has increased and will continue to increase. margaret, just quickly. do consumers want to use

is isis taking advantage of this opportunity, as margaret warner reported? >> yes, isis did. we saw that as syrian troops went to aleppo, isis to go palmyra, but isis' names are numbered. the trump administration has said they're going to concentrate on isis and they're going to work with russia. now, we don't know whether they really will work with russia or not, but it's clear isis is going to be pounded. who is going to benefit from that? it's quite clear the syrian regime in syria as the iraqi regime in iraq is benefiting from america's effort to destroy those opposition forces in both countries. and there aren't any other rebel forces that one can foresee on the horizon that will be able to take eastern syria that's now occupied by isis. but the syrian government will be there. it's weak today, but it's been gathering strength. and i think it's likely that in the next few years, you'll see the syrian government retake much of syria. now, this is disputed among experts. there are a lot of people here today at our conference who think that that's not likely to happen, that
