maria: it's more activity. and you want to see that so what are your thoughts on what we're hearing now for example, alexandria ocasio-cortez? she thinks the top end of earner s should pay as high as 80 % tax rates. >> it i always separate the corporate and business side which need to be competitive with the individual side and so you know people have all different theories about individual side and what maximizes returns and stuff like that, so i'm not, i don't get involved in that debate because i'll leave it up to the politicians. that is actually less important for economic growth and the business side. maria: the top 10% already pay 80% of all of the tax. >> they do, but in america, a lot of payroll tax regressive, real estate tax, so you look at the big picture anyone could say we should relook at this and make it better and more efficient and fair. maria: are you saying you wouldn't mind to see the top end pay 80% in taxes? >> no. maria: you wouldn't mind that? >> no i'm not saying that. maria: just to b

maria: right.re looking right now at a graphic. the wall in nancy pelosi's state. this is the wall separating tijuana from san diego. >> right. yeah, for the -- maria: the wall that has been there and she voted for and knows it's in her own state, and yet she says any more wall is immoral. >> yeah. that's -- we need to get it out of the speaker's hands and the public debate and into the hands of members of congress who have for 20 years known that a comprehensive border security plan includes more personnel, more technology and more physical barrier. president trump's asking for about 234 more miles of physical barrier as part of a comprehensive plan that would not build a wall from shining sea to shining sea, as he said. it would simply do what we've been doing for 20 years. so i'm optimistic that the committee, which just last summer in the senate approved another $1.6 billion for 65 miles of physical barrier, will be able to come up with a compromise. maria: well, you are on the appropriations c

maria: exactly.ing, general dynamics, at&t reporting this morning, microsoft, facebook out after the bell, amazon reporting tomorrow. busy what, what do you expect and what would you be doing ahead of busy week? >> you are starting netflix, fang, continuing to improve relative what we saw in last quarter. tech is where you want to be, microsoft, amazon on cloud, you are starting to see better improved spending, fundamentally china is the overall in market. investors that i talk to, that's the key barrier here. do i think apple through the whole food chain in light of debacle we saw in nvidia, big step forward. maria: you mentioned china, the talks began today. federal reserve making decision on interest rates, what do you want to hear of talks? >> first ip, they need to go around that. that continues to be the focus. i think that continues to be the quagmire. right now we look, this is a fork in the road situation with china, if we don't get what we need and tariffs continue to step up, apple, intel,

maria maria: i'm excited about it. there we go. real america is what i call it. dagen: yeah. how would they react? it's got a lot -- those electric vehicles have a lot of torque off the line. i don't know, what's it like to tow your boat with that puppy? we'll see. they're trying not to lose -- gm is placing a huge bet on electric vehicles. they're not going to give up that market completely. so they have -- they're going to have to have an electric version of their best selling vehicle. maria: will it resonate, though? electric vehicles have been really-they're trying to push the electric vehicle out for a lot of years now. it really hasn't resonated. i'm wondering if people will still be buying gas you you go g suvs. dagen: the model 3 from tesla was one of the best selling cars in the country last year. once you drive one, it gets rid of any notions you might have about electric being uncool. maria: tesla is really popular. i know that. this morning it's having an issue. it's cutting its guidance and some jobs and a

good morning to you maria. maria: your reaction to the president. you've had meetings this weekend your mandate is to fund this government, tell us where we are in terms of being at an impasse on this border wall funding. >> well, we're at laggerhead still, we're at an impasse and i was hoping it would not be this way but it is. we could settle it, we should, but this has become a political circus. a lot of people on both sides are calling names and so forth, but what we need to do, maria is get together. we need to secure our border. i think the president is absolutely right in this. we're close, sometimes, but we're far away, and i think we've got to quit the political posturing and get down to rational thinking, rational discussions. i know this afternoon some of my staff will be at the white house , trying to negotiate to where we are and what can be done. this could be settled in 24 hours or less if we could get together and i think we've got to get together because ultimately, maria, this will all end in some negotiated settlement. the america

maria: in 2018.. do things change when the company becomes public? could you expect more spending in terms of expansion on real estate? >> we hope so. i think the big area in the technology world today and they can't recruit enough people is data privacy. we know facebook, uber, pinterest, stripe, our tenants have large requirements for data privacy talent out there today which i think is fueling growth as well. maria: i love the idea that the company is doing a lot of biofar biopharma, health care industries. we had news that eli lilly is acquiring luxo oncology for $8 billion. we saw bri bristol-meyers squibb announce an acquisition. do things consolidate when you see the deal flow. >> there's two sides to m&a. one is where the larger company goes after the pipeline, the product pipeline of the company, which i think is a celgene. i think you'll see consolidation and savings in the new jersey campus area which is unfortunate i think for new jersey. if you look at celgene bought juneau, a cancer the
