cnn senior political analyst ron brownstein, republican strategist and cnn political commentator maria cardonanice to see all of you. so as we look at where things stand, a lot of promises from the incoming president about what was going to happen on day one. it's going to be a very busy day one, as many as 100 executive orders. for presidents, incoming presidents on day one, when it comes to executive orders, this would certainly be a flurry and be the most to put it to put it mildly. noel, he is really coming out swinging here, doing exactly what donald trump said he would do. he wants to enact a lot of change on day one with this large number of executive orders. there's also the potential, obviously, for legal challenges. how much do you think that is also a part of the planning process for donald trump and his administration? well, well, everybody knows that donald trump is the man that gets things done. >> and i think that that's why overwhelmingly, people voted him back in to do another term. so, you know, you can always kind of look back on history and know that donald trump likes to d

joining us now, cnn political commentators maria cardona and scott jennings. maria, first to you. you know, trump, as you saw, signed this slew of executive orders on immigration, including shutting down the app that allows migrants to legally apply for asylum. he also signed an order to end birthright citizenship, something that the supreme court upheld in part of the 14th amendment's constitutional right. when you see these many different orders, what does it tell you about where he is going with this and how severe this is going to be? >> i think it's going to be incredibly severe, sara. but it shouldn't surprise us because he's been talking about this for a very long time. but the bottom line here is, is that none of this is going to actually fix the problem. and the challenge of immigration that we face in our country. and all of it is focused on cruelty, on division, on separating families, and on inflicting as much pain as possible in communities across the country. and what you're seeing today is so many communities are in distress. >> many families are panicking. many fam

let's discuss with cnn political commentator and democratic strategist maria cardona and former white house spokesman and president for president george w bush, pete seat. maria, let me start with you. let's put that back up on screen again. i mean, he's been going after democrats and their response to the fires and so on. i mean, trump talked about uniting the country after he won election in in november and that he's putting things out like that. what do you think? >> it's disgusting. and he's not even in office yet. and he's already giving us a preview, which is, frankly, a look back at what we already had, the four years that he was in office. but i think this is going to be that on steroids. i think people are already exhausted. what he's doing in terms of politicizing these fires after horrendous loss of life, loss of property, loss of livelihoods, you've had people on your show. it is gut wrenching to hear their stories. you have all sorts of community suffering, the latino community suffering, african americans, all kinds of communities. frankly, many of which voted for trump.

let's discuss now with cnn political commentators maria cardona, alyssa farah griffin and shermichaelingleton. shermichael, let me start with you first. does speaker johnson keep his job? what do you think? >> i think so, jim. it's going to be tough. he obviously can't afford to lose anymore. what i'm really looking at though, here, is how many members of the freedom caucus may potentially join congressman massie, in part because of their anger, to be quite honest with you, about these continuing resolutions that many of them have argued aren't the proper way to fund or run the government, which i wouldn't necessarily disagree with. i guess the ultimate question here, though, jim, for republicans, if they can't get johnson across the finish line, who in the world could they put forward that could get enough votes to actually be confirmed? i'm not certain who that person is at this point, which is why i think donald trump ultimately endorsed him, because the reality is the math is on johnson's side. even though thomas massie is still holding out. >> yeah, alyssa, there's one definite n
