maria molina has the latest for us. >> reporter: we are expecting an active day in the month of may whichs typically the most active time for severe weather. 6 tornadoes reported from kansas up to illinois yesterday. it's associated with a of pushing eastward. it's a relatively slow mover and has a lot of moisture with it. we are also looking at the possibility for flooding and that was a concern early this morning around the chicago area because a lot of moisture with these storms. today's severe weather risk including the tennessee valley and northeastern texas. there is a second area where you will have a concern for strong to severe storms. we could be looking at large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes as some of those storms do begin to restate and produce funnel clouds. 6 yesterday. not a lot of activity. but keep that in mind today. it only takes one tornado to cause some damage out there. part of the reason why we are seeing that risk for severe weather is how warm it is ahead of that system. martha: thank you very much. bill: it was beautiful here yesterday. it was cloudy and fo

no official word yet if a twister did in fact touch dowfnlt our meteorologist maria molina is live inhe fox weather center. wall cloud maria? what is that all about? >> a wall cloud is not what you want to see from a thunderstorms. when we get a wall cloud it typically means you could have a tornado touch down any moment and that's typically where you get the stronger, longer track tornadoes. you can see actually that looks like a funnel cloud in that particular video and we did have six reports of tornadoes stretches across the plains into illinois, all from a strong front that is pubs eastwards. a lot of times they get rotation and that forms a wall cloud styles and you get tornadoes touches down. wall cloud, not g. any time you see a cloud loferg from a thunderstorm. y in the ohio valley, tennessee valley, parts of texas, we could be seeing thunderstorms and possibly more wall clouds and some of the thunderstorms could produce large sized hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes, so stay alert. if you live out here, we're talking about large cities that could be impacted by stro

maria molina is here with the latest at the fox weather center. hey maria. >> reporter: good morning martha. we had 400 reports of severe weather yesterday as you mentioned, over parts of the plains, into the northeast and it's thanks to the strong cool front pushing east wand. we have cooler air and dryer air and that's helping fuel the thunderstorms from the northeast and parts of the mid, south and into the plains and we're going to see another area of low pressure exit parts of the rockies and this system is going to head eastward and produce weather once again across oklahoma, northern parts of texas as well and also kansas, into southern parts of nebraska and the storm prediction center has issued a moderate risk for parts of oklahoma, southern kansas and also northern texas. that's the area shed in red where we have the greater chance to see longer track tornadoes, so stay alert if you live out there, make sure you heed the warnings and do get any tornado warnings across that region. right now, we don't have really any tornado warnings but w
