let's get your first degree weather update with maria molina. she has more on beryl.here is it now? >> across georgia bringing in heavy rain. we received some reports about 4-6 inches of rain. some an additional 6 inches of rain. talking flooding arounded here. i am going to show you the flood advisories. where is tropical depression beryl going? it will continue to track north slowly at 2 miles per hour. that's why we see so much rainfall because it is moving so slowly. sustained winds at 35 miles per hour. it could regain tropical storm status. if it remains on shore in north carolina outside of the outer banks. it is really the flooding that is a major concern out here. we can be seeing amounts of over half of the rain out here. otherwise the big story is how hot it will be again across texas, tennessee, memphis expecting a hyatt 95 into the upper 80s in new york city. stop of the top temperatures will be firing up strong to severe storms. we will be keepeniing an eye on that. >> it is certainly hot outside here. >>> thank you maria. it is a whole lot more than ano

maria molina joins us with weather. >> big event, kentucky derby later this afternoon. right now. very humid, very muggy. we are expecting conditions to improve throughout the afternoon hours. we actually will start to see the thunderstorms moving out of the area and also start to dry out why 5:00 p.m. i do think we will stay generally pretty quiet. showers further on towards the north not looking at so many problems for during the race time. again, drying out. still warm out there with temperatures into the middle 80's. otherwise, right now we have those heavy showers and also thunderstorms just south of louisville where we are seeing actually the potential for severe storms because we do have a severe thunderstorm watch out there across southwestern portions of kentucky. this does not include the city of louisville. this is the area where we could see some of that large hail and damaging winged gusts from some of those storms. as we head off towards montana, idaho and wheeling dealing with snow along system of the higher elevations a couple of inches will be possible.

meteorologist maria molina tracking beryl and all your weather from the weather center.>> reporter: we are still looking at a lot of busy record across the lore 48, starting off with tropical depression beryl, it was a tropical storm when it made landfall last night basically northeastern parts of florida, including the city of jacksonville. it had sustained winds at that time of 07 miles pe 70 miles per hour. every since it's separated from the warm ocean water that was helping fuel it we are seeing it weak evening. sustained winds now at 35 miles per hour. we expect further weak evening as it goes north into georgia, by late tonight into early tuesday morning, sustained winds will be for the weekend about 30 miles per hour. it was downgraded at 11:00am by the national hurricane center that ias it continued to weaken out there. it is going to track to the northeast. we can actually see beryl strengthen a little bit as it enters the warm ocean water by sustained winds of 35 miles per hour and race off towards the east into the atlantic ocean and continue to strengthen. w

gregg: we have maria molina from the fox weather center. we're going to hear from her, but first to elizabeth in jacksonville, florida. >> reporter: not exactly the way you want to spend memorial day weekend. we're getting heavy wind bands, although paling in comparison to yesterday, the storm fell between 1:00 am -- 12:00 and 2:00 a.m. on that the beach, where we were feeling winds of 75 miles per hour. that is just short of a hurricane. we've already had about an inch of rain, rainfall will continue throughout the day today into tuesday and -- tuesday and maybe parts of wednesday because the system is so huge. that being said, you can see if you saw some of the pictures yesterday, the surf is not necessarily as intense, we were seeing 8-# two, and it was up about 20 yards more than it is right now. take a look at the damage around town. we saw a lot of downed tree branches, a lot of the debris in the roadways, the roadways are very slick, and the mayor just held a press conference saying if people do not have to be on the roadway he doesn

maria molina standing by in the live fox weather center with the latest for us. hurricane center basically stating that tropical storm beryl is continuing to weaken so earlier this morning, it has sustained winds at 50 miles per hour. now, just barely a tropical storm with sustained winds at 40 miles per hour so again, the storm system continuing to weaken. and the center of it is actually 50 miles to the west of the city of jacksonville. it did make landfall a little bit after midnight. early this morning across parts of northern florida. and the storm system is expected to be generally slow moving. right now, towards the west at about 8 miles an hour. it will take more of a northerly turn as you head into tuesday and wednesday before turning to the northeast and accelerating into open waters. by wednesday, 2:00 a.m. we expect it to have sustained winds of 35 miles an hour. just a tropical depression but the big story with this system is not just the wind but how much rain it will be producing across southern parts of south carolina, georgia and florida. we're t

maria molina has the latest for us. >> reporter: we are expecting an active day in the month of may whichs typically the most active time for severe weather. 6 tornadoes reported from kansas up to illinois yesterday. it's associated with a of pushing eastward. it's a relatively slow mover and has a lot of moisture with it. we are also looking at the possibility for flooding and that was a concern early this morning around the chicago area because a lot of moisture with these storms. today's severe weather risk including the tennessee valley and northeastern texas. there is a second area where you will have a concern for strong to severe storms. we could be looking at large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes as some of those storms do begin to restate and produce funnel clouds. 6 yesterday. not a lot of activity. but keep that in mind today. it only takes one tornado to cause some damage out there. part of the reason why we are seeing that risk for severe weather is how warm it is ahead of that system. martha: thank you very much. bill: it was beautiful here yesterday. it was cloudy and fo

no official word yet if a twister did in fact touch dowfnlt our meteorologist maria molina is live inhe fox weather center. wall cloud maria? what is that all about? >> a wall cloud is not what you want to see from a thunderstorms. when we get a wall cloud it typically means you could have a tornado touch down any moment and that's typically where you get the stronger, longer track tornadoes. you can see actually that looks like a funnel cloud in that particular video and we did have six reports of tornadoes stretches across the plains into illinois, all from a strong front that is pubs eastwards. a lot of times they get rotation and that forms a wall cloud styles and you get tornadoes touches down. wall cloud, not g. any time you see a cloud loferg from a thunderstorm. y in the ohio valley, tennessee valley, parts of texas, we could be seeing thunderstorms and possibly more wall clouds and some of the thunderstorms could produce large sized hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes, so stay alert. if you live out here, we're talking about large cities that could be impacted by stro

maria molina is here with the latest at the fox weather center. hey maria. >> reporter: good morning martha. we had 400 reports of severe weather yesterday as you mentioned, over parts of the plains, into the northeast and it's thanks to the strong cool front pushing east wand. we have cooler air and dryer air and that's helping fuel the thunderstorms from the northeast and parts of the mid, south and into the plains and we're going to see another area of low pressure exit parts of the rockies and this system is going to head eastward and produce weather once again across oklahoma, northern parts of texas as well and also kansas, into southern parts of nebraska and the storm prediction center has issued a moderate risk for parts of oklahoma, southern kansas and also northern texas. that's the area shed in red where we have the greater chance to see longer track tornadoes, so stay alert if you live out there, make sure you heed the warnings and do get any tornado warnings across that region. right now, we don't have really any tornado warnings but w
