let's go to maria molina who is -- wow, look at that.ng the storms for us. >> hi, good morning. that is just devastating looking at those live pictures coming out of that granbury, texas area. reports that that tornado was about a mile wide. so we could potentially be looking at a very strong tornado, if it is confirmed of es-3 or greater, and winds of 136 miles per hour or even greater. there were two other tornadoes as well reported farther north of granbury. granbury is 70 miles to the west southwest of the center of dallas, texas. so very close to a very large stay in the state of texas. again, two other reported tornadoes, damaging those areas as well, power lines down, trees down, homes also damaged. again, granbury seems to be one of the hardest hit towns in texas from that severe weather outbreak yesterday or during the overnight hours as well. we are looking at also very hot temperatures in the forecast. while we do have good news in terms of no additional severe weather expected in the short-term, as we head into later today, f

meteorologist maria molina with the latest. jenna: well now to the fox weather alert. we're tracking the threat of some severe storms and get this, in parts of the country really already damaged by tornadoes. so not a great path for some these storms. meteorologist maria molina is with us and will tell us where the storms are going. >> hi, good to see you. you're absolutely right. we're talking about some areas that have already been hit hard by tornadoes not even within the past two weeks. talking about the town, moore, oklahoma, they were hit hard by the ef-5 with winds over 200 miles an hour, 210 miles per hour were the estimated wind speeds with the tornado. we had fatalities and injuries and damage still to be cleaned up in that area and we're looking for a threat of violent thunderstorms that could produce tornadoes that could long track, ef 3, ef-4 or ef-5 strength. it they could touch down today in parts of kansas, oklahoma and even parts of northern texas. all ingredients are coming together. we have the warm air ahead of our storm system and humid mass coming

maria molina joins us outside from our studios here in new york. >> hey, good morning.s mark the start of the eastern pacific hurricane season and the national hurricane center already tracking an area of showers and storms in the eastern pacific ocean that could develop, about a 30% chance of becoming a named system in the next 48 hours. the center of the storm system actually located about 650 miles to the south of the city of acapulco in mexico. if it does become a named storm, the name will be alvin. like steve mentioned, we do anticipate the start of the atlantic hurricane season as usual to begin on june 1. yesterday we actually saw record heat across the center of the country. we're talking triple digit temperatures in places like sioux city, iowa, omaha, nebraska. in sioux city, you set an all-time may high temperature record at 106 degrees. adjust couple days ago, you were talking record snowfall in that part of the country. today cooler, in the 80s. 78 will be your high temperature. new york city, a little bit on the cool side. below average. 65 degrees for th

meteorologist maria molina live in the fox news weather center. good morning there. >> good morning, bill. good to see you. that's right, we're talking extreme weather over the weekend all associated with a very slow moving storm system that will impact parts of midwest and plain states. not just again today but even as we head into your tuesday. by wednesday we're talking possible severe weather as we head into sections of the northeast. we have several days here to track the storm system. yesterday we saw about 24 reported tornados. that is according to the storm prediction center. one of them was confirmed, an ef-1 near wichita, kansas. estimated winds up to 110 miles per hour. but the other big story of course is very large hail. some reports of grapefruit-sized hail. you're talking about over four inches in diameter. that in itself can cause damage and strong damaging winds in excess of 60 miles an hour. more than 200 reports of very strong wind across this area. today as you mentioned a very similar threat anywhere from tex up into parts of

maria molina has the latest now. maria, talk about a crazy spring, huh? >> yes, that's right. very crazy stuff in terms of snowfall but we do want to first talk about the elevated fire danger that continues in place across parts of the desert southwest including parts of southern california where several wildfires continue burning and we do have red-flag warningings in eye affect across parts of southern california and arizona and northern california because of low humidity that continues in place. strong wind gusts of over 60 miles per hour. we saw rereports of that yesterday. that's what we're looking at across southern california. very warm temperatures. 90. shy of triple digits for some of you. 102 for the high temperature in death valley. a little bit of good news we have in the forecast we're expecting improved weather conditions next couple days. by saturday and sunday many of you will look at cooler temperatures. 60s for some of you and a slight chance of showers coming through. higher humidity. that should help out the firefighting efforts across this part of the coun

and maria molina takes a look at where it is now.me system that's been producing that threat for severe storms and did produce severe storms across parts of the center of the country. it started over the weekend, continued monday and also into tuesday. now we are looking at the storm system possibly bringing in severe weather across parts of pennsylvania, parts of upstate new york and all the way down into sections of tennessee and northern parts of georgia. so a pretty widespread area that could be looking at severe weather. these storms are not going to be as strong as what we've seen over the last couple of days, but they could still bring in that threat for damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 miles an hour, large hail and if you live in nashville, cincinnati, cleveland, buffalo and burlington, vermont, stay alert if any warnings are issued for your county, seek safety immediately. also we have warm and humid air ahead of this system. temperatures will make it into the 80s very widespread, even in places in new york city 86 degree

meantime, let's go to maria molina because she's tracking i guess what could be more storms coming that that's right. good morning. in that same disturbance that produced severe weather across parts of texas headed e could produce severe weather across parts of alabama and mississippi. a brand-new storm could be more powerful and produce more severe weather, more widespread from texas up into sections of the midwest as we head into the next couple of days. first i want to show you the forecast for granbury, texas, where that es-4 tornado was confirmed. we're looking at very hot temperatures into the afternoon hours. 98 degrees will be your high temperature on saturday. that is not good news. many people without homes like you saw from anna's report and also without air conditioning, so we hope these people go ahead and find a place or shelter where they do have that air conditioning and also stay hydrated. we have that risk for severe storms, very isolated across parts of mississippi and alabama. our next storm system is going to exit the rockies, could already produce isolated storms t
