marianne favro joins us live where teachers and the district are still talking at this hour. >> the teachers just came out and gave us a briefing about the negotiations and telling us they have now been willing to tell us their demands from the original 10% raise that they were asking for to accepting a 3.2% cost of living adjustment. it's not a done deal yet. they are going back into the negotiating room, and in the meantime all of these teachers have been out here all day and they have been picketing. what they have been told though is that for now they should plan not to be mighty teachers ♪ >> reporter: drumming up support for a pay raise, more than 60 striking teachers walked the picket line today. while their union negotiates with the new haven unified school district for a pay increase. the district is offering a one-time bonus and 1% raise. in a statement, the district says any additional increase would require significant cuts that would jeopardize student safety. this second grade teacher at the a barker isn't buying it. >> they have not made any cuts to strast costs. >> the union

marianne, it sounds like they're there. >> terry, i just spoke with the man who lives here. he said there are two families that live here. the adults were inside the living room around sk this mo1: morning. no one was hurt. but take a look at this huge tree. it was such a close call. now, this tree hit so hard that it ripped the front door. you can see crews are working on it right here. this is 60 feet in diagrammer -- or six feet in diameter. this section that broke off was six feet deep hull. it crashed on the home early this morning. you can see where the section of the roof buckled. neighbors say they're surprised it came down since the winds weren't that high and there wasn't a storm. >> i don't know why it would break. i guess it got too heavy on one side. we have heard of that before. we had ours taken down. >> reporter: a spokesman with the bay area tree specialist confirms the tree appeared healthy. since the tree likely came down because of old age and heavy weight on the protruding limb, crews will be out here all day trying to remove the tree section by section.
