the morgue capacity in maricopa county is 150 bodies. yesterday they reported 156. they have a surge capacity that goes up to 209. but they're going ahead and adding four additional trucks to add 60 to the capacity. that's in addition to the 600 nurses the state is bringing in to deal with the overwhelmed hospital system. here things are very, very tough. poppy? >> incredibly. evan, you know, we're seeing what happened in new york bringing in the freezer trucks and the morgues were filling up. the exact same thing is now happening down there. thanks for the reporting. >>> well, this morning, corpus christi has requested the trucks as well. one month ago today, june 16th, that city had a total of just 329 coronavirus cases and today more than 7,500. corpus christi is a big tourist destination and local leaders are asking people to stop coming and stay home. the mayor ordering a curfew and closing off the beaches to traffic. we have the mayor with us this morning from corpus christi. i'm sorry, because it was just a month ago or so when you had several days in a row o

maricopa county, where more than 60% of the state's population lives, does have one in place. amid concerns about hospital capacity there, the state announced it would bring in nearly 600 nurses from other states to assist with covid treatment. and i am joined now by three mayors from states we were just talking about, rick kriezman from st. petersburg, florida, stephen read from montgomery, blamd, and anna toll var of tulsa, arizona. welcome to all of you. mayor read, let me start with you. mask requirement within the last hour going into effect in your city and in your state. how do you enforce this? >> well, i think we enforce it by just making people aware of the importance of wearing a mask anytime they're in public. what we're really looking to do is to bring attention to this issue and stopping the spread of covid-19. our areas of enforcement range from partnerships with businesses to certainly law enforcement being a last option. what we really just want to do is encourage everyone to wear a mask when they're out in public, and we're going to work with our business own

he lost maricopa county. he's not been on an arizona poll all year. the air trying to defend himself to the state of georgia. what does that do to the republican party when texas and georgia are in play, when florida, the president's adopted home state, is slipping through his fingers. and the state where he won easily and now joe biden is up at double digits. you think about those governors and you think about what's happening on the ground in those states, these are states where the big division in the big cities were where democrats had dominated, places like houston and phoenix. but what's happening now, the suburban voters are looking at what's happening in the cities and they are seeing trump and their republican governor imperilling their states, and it not only hurts trump, but those governors when they run for re-election will be hurt. this is something that will hit the sunbelt for generations. >> trump has said to reopen schools despite all the situations in the states. any pushback from the governors we were talking about? >> yeah, there's

working closely with maricopa county to get a plan. each summer we see increased deaths due to heat related illness. we are also seeing increased deaths unfortunately due to suicide and drug overdoses. in addition, we have the covid related deaths. maricoparking with county on trying to get the decedents out of the medical examiner's office and into funeral homes for final disposition, because they are almost at capacity. the rest of the state has capacity to handle any of the decedents, or those who need care. we continue to work and identify solutions for hospitals. >> maricopa county has not ordered coolers in 10 years. governor, what guides your decision, politics, economy, science? you say public health, but former health officials, citizens and businesses think you're decisions are half measured. are you trying to protect your image rather than make tough decisions? gov. ducey: there are a lot of critics out there. if i listened to all my critics i would not have time to focus on this pandemic. i am going to make the best possibl
