and you can see the clouds across the north bay, across marin county into sonoma county right now, and the clouds going south to north, as a weather system here offshore, this actually looks a bit more like october. you can see it's going to toss some showers north of ukiah today. it will increase the ocean air-conditioning, and enhance that marine layer, it could give us a little bit of drizzle at times, like we're seeing now and along the north bay coastline and tomorrow morning and it will keep our temperatures running fairly cool for this time of year. later this week, we'll start to see some changes. right now, the marine layer is almost 2,000 to 3,000 feet thick. and when it's that thick, it starts to look like this across the bay area. you see the cooling. this will reverse, some, though on thursday, as high pressure builds in, we'll see the marine layer get squished down closer to 1,000 feet. the valleys will start to warm up, but the bay and peninsula and coast, not seeing much change. temperatures staying fairly cool as we finish off the week. today, near 78 in san francisco.

marin county sheriff's office working conjunction with marin county fire confirmed that they did findck achblt beach craft single engine aircraft along with unfortunately the body of the pilot. the only person believed to be on board in a aircraft. the location is within the middle of a 40 acre fire that has been burning on a remote hillside not too far from our location. in an area called hicks valley. this is north of novato in west marin county. the ntsb is also on its way, should be here in a couple of hours. now the faa tells us that this pilot was heading from brookings, oregon, to san carlos last night, where around 9:30 last night, the pilot radioed air traffic to control saying he was having engine trouble. he would try to land at nas field. then right after that, his aircraft disappeared from radar. marin county sheriff started a search because of the fog and the inability to fly their own search and rescue aircraft, it took them four hours to locate the wreckage. three of the hours to find the fire, another hour to find the wreckage within the fire. the marin county sheriff

>> reporter: yes, the marin county sheriff's office said just a short time ago they believe they have located the wreckage of this small plane that went down here in this rural area of west marin off hicks valley road. this is video of a brush fire that is believed to have been started by a plane when it clashed. it touched off this fire and they are working to get that fire which is 40 acres under control and a short time ago, it is happening on the i will hillside. the small plane reported having engine problems and they were able to track it using radar and at this point it is unclear how many people are on board that plane and what may have happened to them. they also got help from the air force, the civil air patrol, chp and marin county fire department and overnight, it was not an issue. it made it hard to search from the air and they located the wreckage and the sheriff's department believes it went down in this area, touched off a fire that is still burning right now and we will go back to the sheriff's office and we'll see where exactly that wreckage was found and any efforts

here is a picture of what is left of the plane that crashed overnight in west marin county. the crash site is remote. on private property. it is considered a crime scene. the sheriff provideed this picture. federal investigators will arrive and look for clues. the f.a.a. lost contact with the plane around 9:30 last night and rescue crews starred to look for the plane after 11 o'clock. and all hills and grassy areas are used for cattle ranching and there was no one or no property or residence threatened by the accident or the fire itself. >> this picture shows the plane that crashed. according to flight aware, which provided the picture, the plane is registered to a man from redwood city. he radioed in he was having engine trouble and he would try to make it to the novato airport. he crashed seven miles west of the airport. they have not found anyone who saw the crash. a couple of ranchers heard something. >> there were two people who heard a low-flying airplane around that time and thought it was strange and out of the ordinary that it would be flying so low. >> the largers

red flag fire warning in effect for marin, sonoma, napa counties. winds will be 15 to 30 miles per hour in those zones, as well. taking you outside to the red camera network, it's been a beautiful afternoon, temperatures right now in the 70s. a lot of blue sky throughout the east shore, the peninsula 75 and mild and real great night shaping up in the south bay. you can see unlimited visibility back off towards the hills. we are tracking an unusual upper level system. this area of low pressure that's going to kind of sit over california the next two days. as it does that, it's going to have a little lift, may produce a stray thunderstorm, which may spark off a few wildfires. we're tracking that. through tomorrow morning, little shower activity, model is picking up throughout the east bay peninsula and north bay, it's not much, but it only takes a little bit this time of year to get the roadways wet. then as we head throughout the afternoon tomorrow, sunny skies building in from the north bay, all the way down towards the south bay, a nice afternoon.

no problems on the bridge in and out of marin county. 6:47.'s go to steve >> sal, thank you, sir. we have a pretty good fog bank out there. for some there's a westerly breeze, for others there's a southerly breeze. if you get that south wind, it might actually be on the mild side. there's a front moving into the north and the low cloud deck is being helped along by that system, but it also bumped in that low which gave us a hint of tropical moisture yesterday, but it's flying out of picture. it's out towards sacramento, alta cumulus out there and towards the sierra nevada, a couple of active days up in truckee and reno and more in northeast california. but the low that was sitting right there, once that gets kicked inland, it takes all that moisture with it because that system is bumping it along. this low will replace the one we just had, it won't dig as deep, but it'll dig into northern california, so that equals a cooler pattern here, more of an onshore push and a few high clouds and showers towards humboldt county. there'll be some clouds
