the heavy rain started in marin county last night. sarah joins us from the canfield where search and rescue teams are actually getting ready. they are on standby to help anyone trapped in floodwaters or mudslides. 4 we actually took shelter inside the kentville fire protection district station here. it is still raining and can feel but take a look at what this team is doing right now. they just inflated this rescue boat here and they are loading it up on the truck. they have been at it for a while now just preparing for this storm and for any rescues that they know they may have to do. this is a six member search and rescue team made up of different fire departments and other agencies in marin county. they are trained in water and surf rescues and boat operation. they are ready this morning available to help in any water related rescue in the entire county. every time marin county sees heavy rain, there is always that possibility they will be needed. he helped people stuck on highway 37 most recently when the levee broke and water spi

at main and crescent this is a major area of concern in marin county due to that mudslide that happened not long ago. it is to dart to take a look and later on we will take a look at the mud, dirt and debris sliding down the hill forcing this road closure. they are putting out these k- rail temporary plastic barriers on either side of sausalito boulevard where the mudslide occurred. they hope to stabilize the area as best as possible to keep it clear. this is a densely populated part of sausalito and some of these people appear to be used to this incredibly wet weather. >> i think it is really very specific to where you are. again, i don't feel that where i am, even a few hundred yards down the road, i don't think we are at a tremendous amount of risk. >> reporter: what is happening today is that the sausalito police, southern marin fire district and public works will all be patrolling this specific slide area. yesterday they took care of it by removing three trees in the way to add to the danger, sandbags placed on the sausalito boulevard to try to redirect the additional water runoff

the storm cleanup continues in marin county as county officials call for a local state of emergency..y is moving around boulders to help restore a levee washed away in last weeks storms..highway 37 in the westbound direction remains closed as water from novato creek has spilled over.. the marin county administrator is recommending the board of supervisors ratify the state of emergency at a special meeting on tuesday. this could help the county get either state or federal aid to reimburse costs of infrastructure repairs and other expensesthe money would also help with storm damage from mudslides and toppled trees in sausalito. the boulevard where a mudslide destroyed two homes has been forced to close..crews worked to clear up the debris saturday.the city reports the boulevard seems to be undamaged. however, engineers will have to carefully evaluate the area to make sure there is no more potential danger. the city estimates it will not be open to traffic for at least another week. a special meeting to declare a local emergency in sausalito is scheduled for monday.. . >>> flooding along highway 37 and the destructive sausalito mudslide prompted marin county to declare a state of emergency. strong storms and heavy rains have battered the north bay causing a levee near the highway to give way. kpix 5 is live along highway 37 which is still closed. katie? >> reporter: yeah, juliette, you can definitely understand why. look at all this water. we're actually standing in the flooded area of highway 37. if you take a look down here, this is thlathat indicates the shoulder. it's under about six inches of water. if we walkover here, this is actually one of the lane markers that separates the two lanes. the biggest issue is the fact that once that levee broke t- created a direct channel out -- it created a direct channel out to the bay. when the tide comes in, this area can be under three to four feet of water. the biggest issue is they can't get rid of this flood water until they are able to fix the levee. heavy equipment operators are bringing in hundreds of boulders and dirt to create a makeshift dam for highway 37. >> this breach allowed it to fill up th
