how did you start talking to marissa? david: the conversation with marissa was a fun one.s came at a time where we were looking for partners for strategic investment. we were in the process of raising money. more than just having an investor come in and cut us a check. actually show up with some technology we can lean on. with some resources, distribution, content that could make our network better. there was a ton of things to do with yahoo! but also, with marissa -- her vision for what she was trying to do with the company was really aligned with what we were doing with tumblr. where we were going next and what we were going to need. the other thing was, in marissa and in her team we were spending time with, we found an unstoppable positivity and optimism which we had come to appreciate. it is not universal across this industry. there are plenty of cynics, people with brash personalities and occasionally even an intense negativity. i've always and i think our team has always been pretty allergic to that. emily: did you want to sell, or did you feel like you had to sell?

cory: i could make the argument that the last thing marissa -- marissa mayer wants is for us to pay attention to yahoo! results. what do we see in terms of progress? see they are able to grow revenue, but not as much as last quarter. cory: revenues are down as a present. sorry, heartsy, of revenue were able to grow. that revenue is expensive. they grow 300% year-over-year. people too,get and basically to get traffic into the site were up 300%. so that basically says the money they're pink to oracle, pain to other sites continues to be a drive on overall profitability for the company. cory: mobile? how they look in mobile? crawford: mobile was up 34%. it was up considerably, but it would probably have to double that win -- to your point, when you look at yahoo! outside of alibaba, the need to accelerate. cory: is there any sense that the acquisitions marissa has done -- she does not call them acquisitions. i call them acquisitions. she has told me they are trying to bring in talent faster than hr can do it by buying companies. the acquisitions build out a stronger skeleton for yahoo!, but what

emily: you mention marissa mayer, what do you think her chances are of turning things around?eter: she is by far the best ceo it has had in a decade. she should not be evaluated on whether she invents something new. that is setting her up for failure. the existing businesses are big, if you can improve those and make those work, that is fantastic. emily: other than what you have written in this book, what are some things you believe that very few people agree with you on? peter: an issue i have been spoken about is this idea that college education has become something of a bubble. a trillion dollars of student debt, is not getting what we are paying for. it needs to be rethought in a fundamental way. emily: if you could start education over again, what would you do? peter: get rid of the word "education" to start with. emily: would there be no schools? peter: there would be schools, but they would be very different. they are stuck in the 19th century. you figure out ways to make them individuated, where different students learn at their own pace. emily: you have the thiel fell

lauderdale airport, what have you learned about this, marissa? >> reporter: well, keith and jacqueline, we have the plane behind us at terminal 1 at the airport so you can get a look for yourself. you can see it's kind of just outside of the terminal here. still where it's been since they were able to taxi it here. right now they are waiting for the engine to continue to cool so that an investigation can get under way to figure out exactly what went wrong here. what we know is an engine caught fire around 12:30 this afternoon as the plane was taxiing just a few minutes before takeoff. fire rescue was called, all 101 passengers onboard were evacuated within six minutes, we're told. 15 of the passengers were taken to the hospital, one of them has serious injuries, the others we're told will be okay. the airport itself was shut down for three hours as a precaution. now it is back open, but the problems are already mounting for those hoping to get home tonight. as delayed and cancelled flights stacked up on airport monitors in ft. lauderdale, strande
