mark: trump is not going to fade instantly. former brewery stuff -- a former barista said she applied for a fellowship on hillary's campaign but then found out it was unpaid. hillary clinton should pay her interns if she is calling for higher wages for every american. are the complaints valid? john: she took this job, unpaid work on campaigns. volunteers, interns are the backbone of presidential campaigns. there is a reason why we took those when we were young. there were other terms -- there were other forms of pay. if they lied to her in some way that would be bad. i would say the evidence of that, this woman just needs to take the job if she likes it. mark: i mostly agree. she says she still supports clinton. some reports say unpaid interns are exploited laborers. i'm not saying she should have to take the job. you can imagine, there is an argument to be made. someone who is willing to move to another state should at least have their expenses covered. john: it's the case that she called that internship indentured servitude.

mark: so wrong. u.s. stocks in retreat: slumping markets in europe after setbacks in talks between greece and its creditors, concerns the country could default on its debt. thatelloff sparked by news representatives from the imf walked away from talks with greek officials yesterday. you see on the board the s&p 500 down .75%. the dow jones, a 154-point decline. nasdaq composite is down 30 points. the price of gold is falling on this friday as well, now trading at 1000 $179 and $.70 an ounce. oil is falling for a second day. nymex crude down nearly a full percent at $60.21 a barrel. betty: a quick check on how treasuries are trading, you can see the yields are coming down slightly particularly for the 10-year. better than estimated consumer confidence numbers. in the currency markets, kind of an interesting scenario given the greek debt talk. the dollar is weaker right now against both the yen and the euro. let's get a look at our top stories this hour. we could be moments away from a house vote on the fas

mark: thank you.exican oil company is causing headaches for hewlett-packard. ♪ mark: welcome back to the bloomberg market day. i'm mark crumpton. federal judge in california says hewlett-packard must face a corruption lawsuit filed by pemex. oil giant cory johnson is with us now with more on the case. tell us why this matters. cory: back in april of last year, hewlett-packard settle the charges under the foreign corrupt practices act were they admitted to paying bribes to get business in mexico, poland, russia, paying $108 million in fines, one of the largest that any companies have had to pay in the past. they admitted that they were paying people at certain companies and officials to get business center way. --x was one of the companies companiesne of these listed in the bride. in u.s. courts saying they wanted to undo the deal, wanted some damages, $6 million could be at stake here. hewlett-packard made the case that a mexican company cannot -- hewlett-packard employees in mexico may have paid mone

mark: june or july? nick: not today. mark: your favorite is july? nick: if you pick your favorite one, it's a toss of the coin or assigning probability is higher. right now, what we have is very high pitch rhetoric from both sides. i keep getting back to this. it is really not so much about financing over the next one or two years but about structural reforms. this is where the whole thing is getting -- having said that, the june 30 is important because of the deadline. and greece would be left without a program which is why -- the most important date is july when you have the biggest payment held by the ecb that matures. i think a when it comes to that, it is a guessing game. if you put a gun to my head, i would say most likely not going to get a deal and it will drag on for some time. the reason is things will get a bit ugly before they get better. at the end of the day, will reach some sort of a deal. nick lyster: i would agree. mark: capital controls, is that necessary? nick lyster: it depends on what happens. if there's a run on the banks. mark

mark: so he has been getting high marks for his recent speeches, but he does not appear to be catching on to early states hovering around 5% in recent polls. but he's not alone in having trouble catching on. those he and rand paul have had trouble reaching double digits. meanwhile, marco rubio has been on the rise and is getting more buzz. have they hit the ceiling or are they hiding their time till february? john: no and no. i don't think they are biding their time. they have stalled a little bit. neither one has capitalized on what were relatively good announcements. they are now not in a top tier. a few months ago, we would have said walker jeb bush and marco rubio were joined by those two, but they've fallen into the second year. i think they have growth potential. but right now, they are not on an upward trajectory. mark: i think they are focused more on organizing. in iowa, you want to organize and get hot again. these are guys who can get hot and they are organizing. i think despite the fact that i get asked all the time where are they, why aren't they doing well ? i think they

mark: i'm mark halperin. and "with all due respect," and with all due respect to roger goodell -- it's not hard. see? mark: happy national rocky road day. in our lineup, the florida chatter, the bernie matter and intercept blatter. nevada has voted on it bill that would change its caucuses to a primary. who wins and loses? mark: it's a huge lose for the establishment in las vegas and in reno and washington dc. it's a huge win for rand paul. i'm not predicting this, but i think today, rand paul is positioned if he reaches his potential to win the first four states. that is a big deal. he will dominate caucuses if he reaches his potential. john: i know you are not predicting it, but i would give you some very very, very big odds that rand paul will not win the first four contest. as you know, caucuses are about organization and identifying voters that have not necessarily voted in the past, finding core supporters who are enthused and committed. people who have organizing strength benefit from caucuses and rand

mark: i'm mark helprin. with all due respect to alexander hamilton, this is the second time you have lost the duel. second time you have lost the 14 times the president of the united states has made a statement about a shooting. today, the news out of charleston was on tv screens across the country prompted elected officials, whether running for president or not, to respond with statements. at the white house today president obama turn the conversation to an issue he has been unable to make progress on in office, gun violence. president obama: i've had to make statements like this too many times. communities like this have had to endure tragedies like this too many times. we don't have all the facts but we do know that once again innocent people were killed in part because someone who wanted to inflict harm had no trouble getting your hands on a gun. mark: in this story that implicates race, gun violence, and an important political state, what are the implications for politics in charleston? john: this is a

mark: and i am mark crumpton. let's begin with a look at the markets. investors reacting to the may job to report which shows payrolls rising by 280,000 workers. traders anticipating whether the fed will raise interest rates later this year and whether greece and its creditors can reach a deal on debt repayments. the s&p 500 is down fractionally at 2095. the dow jones industrial dropping 28 points. the nasdaq is in the green today, although just barely, at 5063. afterrices the climbing the release of the jobs report. gold trading at 1106 to seven dollars an ounce. opec agreed to meet its target. .83ex crude is trading at 57 a barrel. betty: the bond market reacted swiftly to the jobs data. you just heard the new york fed president will dudley said the same thing which will likely raise rates this year. you can see yields jumping. also, the dollar at a 13 year high. also on the back of that jobs report and the belief that we will see rates rise despite what the imf has said. mark: the new york fed president says central bankers are still likely to raise

mark: why does mark care so much about alfa romeo?> it is at the center of the strategy for european operations. he wants alfa romeo to fill underutilized plants in italy and export these models around the world. alfa romeo is the key anchor of this strategy. it has eight models land by 2018. and he has 5 billion euros and investment budgets for the brand. it is critical. if alfa romeo goes well it looks like the rest of the strategy does well. that is what it is so court to what is going on for the next couple of years. mark: what is next for the brand? >> next up is an suv next year. it is a platform developed where maserati is based. that would be the second of eight cars coming and it remains to be seen what happens after that. we don't have clear guidance of the model strategy after that. but if they can get there, maybe they can challenge bmw and audi a little bit here it the target right now is 400,000. it will be a bit of a stretch because they sold 68,000 cars last year and they are expecting massive growth. mark: a greek dea
