mike: hi, mark.t might chart shows is that goldman sachs came out with their economist reactions to the tax cuts, and they raise the gdp forecast and lower the unemployment forecast. what struck out to me is that they raised the forecast for the size of the u.s. federal budget deficit. if you look at this white line at the top here, goldman is expecting the deficit to swell to 5% of u.s. gdp by 2019. then you look at the dashed red line, you see how rare it is for the deficit to be that big. the last 2 times it is have it it was coming out of recession. the rescission of the early 1990's, and then the 1980's. i very rare occurrence for the deficit to get that big. the blue line is treasury yields. certainly the deficit plays a big influence on the yield of treasuries. the wider the deficit goes, the more treasuries are issued, the higher the yields tend to go. you can see the disconnect after the last recession during qe. if you want to make a case for higher rates in 2018, 2019, that ballooning budg
