aaron peskin second place votes are going, mark farrell's second place votes are going, that anything will change in this race. it is very likely that daniel lurie will prevail. no matter how many more votes are counted. now, political strategists here say that lurie has the most first choice votes and a very strong second choice votes, and they credit his success in the mayoral race to what he represents, which is a fresh start for the city. someone without the political baggage of everyone else that has been running. he also spent a lot of money in campaigning. now, the combination of those two factors very generally speaking, show in the numbers. putting him in first place. other big topics here are the close races for district supervisor and districts one. 511 a little bit as well. in district seven here in san francisco, district one, for example, is separated by just dozens of votes. now the votes that are counted are from people who have had certainty in their positions. some of the late voters faced long ballots and a harder time deciding, so it will be interesting to see how much of those later votes will swing any of the results

daniel lurie's point of view. >> he was always keenly aware of how ranked choice voting works, and with mark farrell exiting andet's say aaron peskin's next, that's some 80, 98, 90,000 votes that can be redistributed around. and he is hoping to be the second choice among those. and that would put him over the top. now london breed has got an uphill climb. she has to get number one votes and then number two votes as well to stay in the running. it's more difficult for her because he has that lead in how votes break. but the bottom line on this is ranked choice voting. if you're an incumbent, it can be a real bear because if people don't necessarily like you, they're going to be looking elsewhere. if you're one of the elsewheres, then it's just a question of which one's going to come out ahead. and lurie bet on him because he was not looking to be number one as much as he was looking to be everyone's number two. >> okay, it's not over. so we want to point that out. that's very important. but if laura does go on to win and become mayor, what do you think he will do? what might he enact? what might change in the ci

philanthropist daniel lurie, board of supervisors president aaron peskin and former supervisor mark farrelle challengers have run on a campaign of change for the city. they are focused on crime, homeless encampments and open air drug use. the incumbent mayor has made a case that she has already laid the groundwork for the revitalizing, for revitalizing the city. will everybody come back together and support whoever the mayor is? no, that's not how we do it here. we will continue to fight amongst ourselves. but a good issue can always win the day when somebody you don't like as mayor proposes something you do like as an initiative. in san francisco, we generally get together and support that. okay, so san francisco uses ranked choice voting. that means voters rank the candidates one through ten, with one being their first choice. if a candidate gets more than half of the first choice votes when ballots are counted, we have a winner. but if no one gets a majority, the candidate with the least votes is eliminated, and then election officials look at second choice votes. this process continues

polymarket in a presidential campaign marked by what seems to be amplified divisive rhetoric. many are looking to separate fact from fiction. danielleomson with the center for an informed public translating misinformation into policy. there is a feeling of amplified divisive new, but is that feeling a reality? danielle: good morning. thank you for having me on the show. the truth is, when you are on social media on election day, it is like trying to drink water from a fire hydrant. there are so many feelings, so much uncertainty, so much speculation about what is going on that it is actually hard to get a true sense of a signal in the noise on a day like today. it is hard to tell exactly. we are trying to shift through all of the rumors to get a sense of what's going on. ed: we have reported on this program in recent days about how, for example, u.s. cyber security officials are trying to reestablish trust with the voting base. have you any data, research, study that tells us how in this election in 2024 misinformation and distrust will be a factor relative to elections in the past? danielle: absolutely. something that we have to un
