one man who has embraced that very idea and is with us today in austin, mark meckler.founder of the group and recently left the group for pursuit of this broader agenda of a custom solution for community restoration. give us a sense, if you would, about why you are making the decision to sort of shed an identity that has great currency for you and has some issues for you as everyone identity does. msnbc does for me. and i think all of us. why are you making this decision? >> really for me, it boiled down to philosophy. i'm a grass roots guy. i was just at the state capital with a bunch of tea partiers. and that's really who i am. it's about bringing power to the people at the local level. i just felt from my perspective, the tea party patriots have become this top-down organization raising multimillions of dollars. none of that money was flowing through. that's not what i was about. i fought to make that happen. also the organization was doing things that associated it with the republican party. so when they sponsored the leadership debate, it was just kind of the fina

here to discuss the 2012 blueprint, tea party patriot, cofounder mark meckler, author of tea party patriots, the second american revolution. >> thank you for having me. jon: so it's not a revolution? some think the tea party has gone away. >> literally the first shot has barely been fired. if you do what i do and meet with tea partiers from southern california to northern washington state what you find are groups committed, active, and actually actively engaged in the electoral process, walking presignature, vetting candidates, candidates are rising up from within these organizations. you're going to see eelectric torial change like never before seen in this country. jon: are you making predictions? >> i think you'll see a sweep in the house of representatives, a bigger change than in 2010, i think we'll see a continuation of the trend we saw in state legislatures. in 2010, it was the largest change of legislature seats in the history of the party since we've been tracking it, we'll continue 20 see -- to see that sweep grow and that creates generational change, people will trick -- trickle

joining us to talk about the meckler one mark montreal of the cofounders and author of a new book.or joining me today. >> thank you for having me, shannon. >> shannon: what do you make of the current gop field? any one there that satisfied the tenets of the tea party? >> i don't think anybody in particular. if you mash them all together you maybe have the perfect tea party candidate. all have a some what checkered past when it comes to upholding tea party principles but the good news is they are all talking tea party principles. that is the victory for tea party. >> shannon: in 2010 many of the primary races and general election results were directly impacted by the tea party. many are not hearing as many from the tea party in the gop primary. why not? >> if you look at the overall tone and tenor of the race and the subject matter they are discussing right now they all go to the tea party's core principles. fiscal responsibility. constitution around limited government. you you have all of the candidates talking to our rips that gives us a selection of people who say they are going
