ktvu'smeteorologist mark tamayo has more. >> they had strong thunderstorms in the area. also up to the north, our bay point camera pointed to the north. look at what we find here, a rainbow and around this region. breaks in the clouds. sunshine. that is why the rainbow and significant rainfall. thunderstorms to the north. here is a live storm tracker 2, the loop. the activity winding down in santa cruz county but all of our attention is focused in the northern half of the bay area, sonoma county, napa county. contra costa county. heavy rain prompting a flood advisory till 7:15 p.m. this evening. look at all the lightning strikes in the past 45 empties. a lot of lightning -- 45 minutes. a lot of lightning strikes. here is the over all coverage here. lightning strikes, napa. north of the east of napa. 9 miles northeast of napa. rainfall over a half inch. that is over the past six hours. you get an idea how intense some of the down pours are. we will put a spot on this one as you can see. napa. that one cell, .37 inches an hour. heavier rain, down pours. thunder in cloverda

. >> in fact, today one of the strongest hit the area our meteorologist mark tamayo has been trackingaftershocks. >> thankfully the aftershocks have basically been magnitude two. here is a map of the aftershocks. the number of reports right now tallying up to 56. the ones to report for today in fact, here's a closer look this was the bigger one the 3.2 we mentioned at 1.56 this morning. there have been a few aftershocks in the region. we had another one to report this morning to support 2:00. you can also pick another one much weaker 2.5 that happened at 6:37 this morning. that was about seven miles away from napa. there's still a chance we could still have small aftershocks over the coming weeks. we'll have the bay area forecast coming up in just a few weeks. >> crews are making progress on the 880 retrofit project. the northbound lanes on 280 have been closed on the 101 interchange to king streets since thursday. the project involves removing pieces of roadways. those new hinges are designed to allow roadways to expand. >>> starting tomorrow, on labor day passengers will be paying a

let's go to ktvu meteorologist mark tamayo. >> it's a p.he winds have strengthed up to 55 miles per hour. this is not forecasted to become a hurricane, but still not a good time to have the storm developed for the parts of the ocean and parts of mexico as well. this is the forecast truck. still, this is close enough to cabo san lucas to generate rainfall on the order of at least one to two, possibly three inches and there is a tropical storm watch in place right now for the southern tip of baja. we'll keep an eye on tropical storm polo. right now in the bay area, we have the low clouds and fog in place near the coast and around the bay and the low clouds will increase in coverage over the next few hours. we also have a bit of haze with the smoke drifting in from the king fire and producing haze in the bay area skies. in addition to the low clouds and fog out there. san jose right now, 75 degrees. santa rosa, 74; san francisco, 65; look at novato and walnut creek. fairfield and livermore, the areas on the warm side in the lower 80s. for toni

ktvu's mark tamayo is tracking the wet weather and joins us with when we can expect it and just how much we should see. mark? >> well, kind of had a little appetizer with a few light showers in the form of drizzle. things will be changing in the evening hours, especially up in the north bay. here is the latest, here is the cold front generating heavy rainfall up towards the north coast, eureka. a live camera looking out to the golden gate bridge. mainly the low to mid-level clouds being bringing up on the current satellite. right now the rain is to the north of mendocino county. it will be drifting to the south as we approach the evening hours. here's our forecast model. we'll take this into the shoerm term. for the most part, partly cloudy skies. look what happens throughout the afternoon hours. could have wet roadways especially up in mendocino county, sonoma county, parts of the marin county coastline as well. at least in the form of drizzle and into the evening hours. that rain line will gradually spread to the south. this will produce a wide range. we'll let you know the areas that

ktvu's mark tamayo is tracking the rain and is here now with how much we've received and how much more we can expect. >> pretty impressive amounts. numbers really as i mentioned impressive. last week on the 18th we were tracking a system. today, once again, tracking a stronger system moving into the bay area, in fact. this the radar at 7:00 this morning. widespread moderate to heavy rainfall targeting the southern half of the bay area. rainfall totals, numbers adding up, especially for san francisco. look at san francisco. .50. fremont hadn't 49. san jose, .36. also up in the north bay, santa rosa .17. i should mention reports of nearly .60 up towards ukiah. but those numbers really adding up. bay areawide, not just a few hundreds but a few 10ths of an inch. that was the radar. right now on the radar, not much coverage. this was the radar loop. the latest imagery, you can see the main shower ban heading out to the east. that's our baypoint camera in the bottom portion of your screen. lingering clouds and enough moisture, we'll hold onto a chance for a few scattered showers. we have lig

mark tamayo is tracking an end to the hot weather and a potential chance of showers. >>> welfarely quietk -- well, fairly quiet weekend here in the bay area. finally some cooling. quick update on a major hurricane hitting cabo san lucas. hurricane odile with 100 miles per hour. already producing winds gusting to over 90 miles per hour. one of the sights near cabo san lucas. right on through tuesday, this is moving up to baja. eventually category one late monday and then a tropical storm for tuesday into wednesday. right now though, we have a category three storm right now moving into cabo san lucas. possibly producing rain showers in southern california as we head toward the midweek forecast. back here in california, we're tracking two, the happy complex and king fire as you see to the east of pollock pines. temperatures not extremely hot. we're cooling off to this part of the state. wind out of the southwest at 10 miles per hour. it's that time of year, fire danger is a big concern and very dry out there. as far as temperatures from this afternoon. we had hot numbers inland. san jose to

we mentioned it, i was talking to mark tamayo yesterday. we had a hot day yesterday. right?nother hot one today. you get a couple days in a row and you see brush fires and here you go. firefighters have a handle on this but temperatures in the area, mid-90s. humidity 15%. if you look at the smoke you can see you don't have a lot of wind blowing. smoke is hanging in the air. the lack of wind helps firefighters and the terrain is manageable. hard to see but we have roads and access points. again conditions in the area, and around the bay area, ripe for fires. it is hot and dry. we are not seeing the strong gusty winds which is a big help to firefighters. we will stay on this story. this fire is under control now but it dig grow from 5 acres -- how big? >> 20 acres. >> 20 acres. 4 times the size in an hour. as we look back here. at home. we have fog. the fog over the golden gate bridge. we have hot, dry conditions. dense fog right now and the fog will be there and keeps things cool. ocean beach, 60 degrees. boom! 45-degree spread. things are hot and things are dry. you can see
