joining me now is the top democrat on the panel, senator mark warner of virginia. senator warner, welcome back to "meet the press" and we should note not a single republican on the intelligence committee agreed to come on this broadcast. we wanted to have somebody from each side of the aisle to ask these questions to, but senator warner, we will start with you. so i want to start with simply, i know you've said -- you think americans should read this entire report, but i'm curious, is there a part of the report that you think singularly deserves the public's attention more than any other part? >> well, chuck, first of all, i'm very proud of the committee's work. three and a half years, five volumes, all bipartisan endorsed in a time when there's not a lot of that bipartisanship going around, and as the report laid out in exquisite detail, much more detail than mueller and we were a counterintelligence report, not a criminal report. unprecedented contacts between russians and folks on the trump campaign and the trump campaign officials welcomed that help and maybe on

you heard mark warner talking about the possibility of a skinny deal this secondly, do you believe the sell-off yesterday was truly driven by some of the caveats that the fed had in their minutes? >> i think they made it so people said, wait a said, the good news of what we heard from target and lowe's is not as important as the bad news. lowe's did a fantastic job in august, so people thought maybe we're done, maybe the fed is worried they're done and those minutes have looked like they were even if we had a skinny deal when i reached out to speaker pelosi to come on the show -- speaker pelosi was in california and unavailable. people get unavailable, they have a convention to go to, but how do you do a deal unless speaker pelosi comes back to work in washington she's working out there. i don't know both sides need a deal some people are being too clever by thinking no deal hurts democrats or republicans i think no deal hurts what we talk about, which is the economy. >> right, there is, though, jim, the i don't think going discussion about we spent 2 trillion, now we're going to spend

senator mark warner of what what was my partner as well as lamar alexander of tennessee and senator king of maine. it involves stewardship of our national parks which i've spent more than a dozen years working on. i guess i shouldn't admit that. sometimes things take a long time around here. back to my days of office of management and budget, i started focusing on this issue of the backlog of maintenance projects at our national parks. it's alarming. it's been growing. it now adds up to over $12 billion. far more than the parks could ever afford to take care of based on our annual budgets we provide them from congress. by the way, the annual budget from congress for all operations, all maintenance is less than $3 billion, and, yet, there's a $12 billion maintenance backlog. when teddy roosevelt started the national parks, he wanted to preserve some of the most beautiful, pristine lands in america. he wanted to be sure they would be there for public use. it was a good decision. we now have 84 million acres of parkland all around the country. some are the most beautiful, pristine places li
