what will marriott choose to do? will it choose to try to fight, to try to increase its current offer? and if it does so, would it largely do so with cash? given the combined ownership of the company itself, a lot of that cash some would argue, 40 cents of each dollar would be coming from starwood in a way. that's the question from marriott that it faces. they will say are the chinese real? can they get the regulatory approvals? yes, they are real. it's likely they will need a sifious review, national security review. it seems unlikely they'll be able to go down a path that leads them to that being rejected. the waldorf astoria was bought by anbang, and, no, the president doesn't stay in the presidential suite there because of fear that the chinese may be bugging the place. anbang also is close to buying the strategic hotels properties from blackstone. a deal just signed up in december. now being flipped to the chinese to anbang. somebody said you guys can do and start doing thing. >> a couple billion dollars in thre

let's talk about starwood and marriott. starwood is up by nearly 5%. marriott up by nearly 2%. the big news is the merger between starwood and marriott is in jeopardy because of a consortium led by en banc concern -- insurance. $70 a deal in cash versus the marriott additional -- initial offer. we will see what happens out of that. in addition, from hotels, we want to go to natural gas pipelines, very specific, but involving the united states and canada. right now, trans canada is down by about 1.6%, but transcanada says it will acquire columbia pipeline group. columbia is popping, up by almost 6%. the price tag is a little bit more than $10 billion. the deal makes transcanada a bigger player into u.s. national -- natural gas pipelines on the order of 15,000 miles. finally, in science tech, i want to look at astra metrics. this is the highest in the past eight years. basically, origin technologies says it wants to buy up astra byrics, topping a rival bid thermo scientific. origin was actually founded by former founders. it looks like some scientific entreaty saying i want it ba

key question here, though, what is marriott going to do? some analysts starting to weigh in this morning, i referenced a report that came out from ever court. marriott upping it by 16 bucks a share or 215. they say that could happen. revised $78 offer from marriott, 4% eps delusion in a year. a slight uptick in leverage ratio. they think it is doable. doesn't mean it is going to happen. would 78 be enough because that is a cash and stock deal? marriott needs to as they have failed to do articulate the value of having starwood shareholders own a good healthy point part of the combination. and so that will be a key for what they choose to -- what level they choose to come to and how the board actually believes that that value is going to come through. another key consideration could be the chinese seem to be intent on keeping the management at starwood. marriott expected to get rid of much of the management and employees may have to leave as well given the synergies. they wanted scale. this is a key business for them to get that scale. should
