joining me with more on that report, ceo of national law enforcement officers memorial fund, marsha forontoagic news here, tell us more about this report, what you found and why fatalities have risen so much in 2021. >> yes, good morning. thank you for having us on. i'm hoping today's release of the preliminary fatality report will really get the attention of our nation. today we are going to, as you said, report out that lines of duty deaths increased by 55% over last year. it's not surprising that the number one cause in 2021 is going to be attributed to covid. there is 301 cases currently on file of covid related deaths. the second cause of law enforcement deaths are firearms. that increased, actually, 38% over last year. in prior years, it's been traffic-related deaths. although those are up 38%, those are traffic-related deaths are the third highest cause of death for law enforcement officers for 2021. >> carley: next natural question is why is this happening? >> you know, that's a good question and this is why i'm hoping today's report is going to get a lot of attention. when you look
